ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical care nursing with the ability to provide high-quality care to patients with complex medical conditions.

Shift Details

Job Shift: Nights
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours per week

Unit Description

Department: MICU
Number of Beds: 26
Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:1-2; 3 patients when short-staffed
Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS (CCRN preferred)
Common Diagnoses: Cardiac arrest, sepsis, neurosurgery cases, DKA, induced hypothermia, GI bleed, angioedema, and more (no trauma cases)
Experience: Must have prior MICU experience
Equipment: RNs are expected to manage equipment but typically not assigned to travelers

Key Responsibilities

Titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, and insulin
Collaborate with charge nurse who will respond to codes and Rapid Response Teams (RRT)
Work alongside Physician Assistants, Residents, and Fellows who are in-house 24/7
Report vital patient information and telemetry strips; nurses must read and interpret telemetry
Assist with respiratory treatments and equipment management

Job Requirements

Availability to work shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Flexibility to accommodate scheduling requests
Willingness to work at least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
Potential inclusion in holiday rotation
No floating requirements outside of stepdown units with a ratio of 1:3-4

Orientation and Training

All new hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation consisting of 2 days of classroom training followed by 1 day with a preceptor.

Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in an ICU setting
Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS; CCRN certification preferred
