Advanced Practice Provider (FNP, PNP, or PA) Inpatient Epilepsy II (Pediatrics)

Overview We are seeking an experienced or enthusiastic new graduate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Family or Pediatric certified) to join our Epilepsy APP team, with a focus on pediatric patient care. This position supports the expansion of beds in the Epilepsy Monitoring Units as we move to the new Neurological Building in 2027. Job duties include inpatient rounding and seizure management in the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (PMU), consults on other pediatric units, and after‑hours calls. Primary location is the pediatric unit; some adult patient care in the adult Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) may be included. This is a day‑shift position with a staffing model of three 13‑hour shifts (7:00 AM – 8:00 PM). Responsibilities Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations (where indicated); initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests or other tests required for evaluation; review lab data to establish current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan; collaborate with the health care team. Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures (laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic) as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license and Cleveland Clinic policies. Educate patients and answer questions regarding disease, treatments, side effects, and treatment hazards. Participate in medical team rounds; collaborate with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care. Refer patients to specialists for consultation or specialized resources and treatment. Ensure continuity of care by acting as a liaison between patient and multi‑disciplinary care team or other specialty areas as necessary. Participate in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes to assure quality care. Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management. Support professional development of the health care team. Promote translation of evidence‑based practices, guidelines, and research. May conduct research studies and assist in data collection and analysis. May serve as a clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers. Other duties as assigned. Education and Certifications APRN Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non‑APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role. Graduate of an accredited APRN program. If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire. PA Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree from a program recognized by the practicing state Licensing Board. Languages Oral and written communication in English. Certifications NP – Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s); must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s); national certification as a Nurse Practitioner; Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) may be required based on work setting; must have arrangements with at least one physician; must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. CNS – Currently licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in applicable state(s); must be licensed as an RN; national certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist; BLS required; ACLS or PALS or NRP may be required; must have arrangements with at least one physician; must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. PA – Certification as a Physician Assistant; license to practice and prescribe; current DEA license; BLS required; ACLS or PALS or ATLS may be required; must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. Complexity of Work Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team; competent in advanced assessment and diagnosis; proficient with electronic medical records; ethical, compassionate, and professional; able to work independently in a stressful environment. Experience and Physical Requirements Related clinical experience preferred. Typical physical demands include walking and standing for long periods; dexterity and coordination for examinations; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. Personal Protective Equipment – Follows standard precautions using PPE as required. Compensation Pay Range: Minimum Annual Salary: $101,900.00; Maximum Annual Salary: $173,220.00. The posted pay range reflects the anticipated range for new hires. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, experience, skills, scheduling, education, and licensure. The range does not include additional pay practices or the value of the comprehensive benefits package.
