SAIC is seeking a Flyout Field Service Engineer (FSE) to support the Medusa Sustainment Team, the U.S. Air Force's solution for defense against small unmanned aerial systems (s UAS). Medusa is a government owned Command and Control (Medusa C2) System of Systems integrating sensors, electronic/kinetic effectors, and advanced algorithms to provide tailorable C sUAS capability for fixed base, portable, mounted, and handheld operations worldwide.
This role is focused on Tier 2/3 and flyout support to Medusa C2 sites. The FSE will provide on-site technical assistance, corrective maintenance, system integration, and training to operational units, and will work on site in Huntsville, AL when not deployed.

Key Responsibilities:

When not traveling, the FSE will work on-site, with responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Provide field engineering and technical support to maintain and sustain fielded C sUAS systems, equipment, and software at designated locations.
• Install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot program-of-record software applications, integrated radios, and hardware components.
• Coordinate with Government software engineering, test, and fielding teams to install software, hardware, firmware, and cybersecurity updates.
• Perform troubleshooting, fault isolation, and repair down to the Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) level before elevating to higher maintenance tiers.
• Prepare systems for operation, including system software loading, operator training, and final operational checks.
• Write, review, and create maintenance processes and procedures for C sUAS equipment and the Medusa System of Systems (SoS).
• Assist with packaging and Return Material Authorization (RMA) processes for non mission capable systems or equipment to higher-level maintenance facilities (e.g., SAIC AF C sUAS Regional Support Center in Huntsville, AL).
• Maintain Medusa Gold System configurations, including SW/HW/FW upgrades for verification, and conduct associated training as needed.
• Support and assist the System Engineering Team with SoS technical drawings and schematics, as required.
• Lead training efforts on new software/hardware changes and sustain continuous learning initiatives for operators and maintainers.
• Support the program Field Service Support Desk and perform Tier 2/3 and flyout support to Medusa SoS C2 sites worldwide.
• Provide on-site and telephonic technical support for Airmen regarding system operations and maintenance.
• Conduct training to improve system performance, operator proficiency, and mission readiness.
• Perform daily COLTS review and maintain awareness of COLTS processes and maintenance actions.
• Conduct scheduled equipment inventories to ensure accountability and readiness; assist with equipment check outs and tracking.
• Install software maintenance updates and/or hardware upgrades to maintain system performance and cybersecurity posture.
• Facilitate site status meetings with FSEs, OEMs, and customers to report on system performance, maintenance activities, and upcoming changes.
• Analyze complex systems to identify faults, system failures, maintenance procedures, and part replacements at the LRU level; assist senior technical specialists with deployments as needed.
• Execute corrective maintenance actions to reduce response times and meet contract Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Conduct parts replacements, system upgrades, and deployments using diagnostic tools and technical expertise.
• Perform fault determination and isolation at the LRU level, executing Removal and Replacement (R&R) of failed components both onsite and at depot locations.
• Monitor and analyze system performance trends to improve supportability, reliability, and accessibility.
• Successfully complete required certifications and training, including Medusa C sUAS Administrator and
• Maintainer courses (minimum passing score of 70) and OEM training courses.
• Assist in optimizing program-of-record software and hardware components for peak functionality.
• Provide independent decision-making and expert recommendations to improve system performance during complex deployments and operational scenarios.
• Provide feedback to program leadership regarding system performance and end user feedback to inform sustainment and modernization efforts.
  
  

Qualifications

• Target salary for this role is 85K.
• Travel: Willingness to travel 25-50% CONUS/OCONUS, including potential deployment to hostile/DZ environments.
• Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience; Masters and 0 years related experience.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in field service, tactical systems, or complex electronic systems
  maintenance.
• CompTIA Security+ (or Security+ equivalent) required.
• Must be able to attain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Technical Background:

• Experience with tactical networks and network troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting computer systems and networks.
• Experience providing in field operator training.
• Basic operational knowledge and troubleshooting of Android-based handheld devices.
• Basic Operation knowledge and troubleshooting of Linux

Tools & Software:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
• Soft Skills & Work Conditions:
• Strong written and oral communication skills; able to clearly communicate via email, phone, and VTC.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high pressure environments.
• Able to work independently and efficiently with short term deadlines.
• Ability to lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Desired Skills

• Military / Domain Experience:
• Military Air Defense background or knowledge (e.g., 31P/3P0X1, FC/AWO, 14W/14W).
• Experience in operation and maintenance of Radar systems (e.g., AN/TPQ 50, LCMR/LSTAR).
• Experience with Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, including CREW (V4/V5).
• Experience with EO/IR camera systems.

Networking & Systems:

• Familiarity with personal computers, switches, routers, IP addressing, network topologies, and
  troubleshooting procedures.
• Experience with Virtual Machines, VMware ESXi/Infrastructure, Cisco, and/or Windows Server.

Diagnostics & Analysis:

• Experience performing Wireshark data captures and basic packet analysis.

This Flyout FSE role is central to sustaining and enhancing Medusa C sUAS capabilities for the U.S. Air Force, enabling rapid response, high availability, and mission success in demanding operational environments.

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
