What We're Looking For GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) position is a development‑focused role crafted to prepare an individual to manage their own store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands‑on program will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to successfully operate your own store, drive results, and develop and lead your team. We seek a dynamic individual who embodies our "Live Well" philosophy and who thrives on offering tailored and innovative solutions to each customer. What You'll Do As a SMIT, you will learn and be expected to lead, coach, and support your team to provide exceptional service and guidance to our customers. In partnership with a Store Manager or District Manager, you will oversee daily operations, including business performance, product management, and ensuring your team has the tools to succeed. You will represent the GNC brand by offering expert product knowledge and promoting our "Live Well" message to customers. Engage with your leader in training initiatives, projects, and goals to support your path to promotion. Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the customer relationship that leads to sales and repeat business, i.e., MYGNC Rewards. Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates realize their sales potential. Build strong teams and demonstrate leadership and managerial skills, such as providing ongoing feedback, recruiting, hiring, and performance management. Open, close, and operate the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory count, and deposits according to GNC procedures. Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization's mission and initiatives. Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion into a Store Manager position. At the end of 90 days, your performance will be assessed and evaluated to determine your eligibility for promotion, considering performance, availability of openings, and willingness to accept a promotion at any location in the designated market. Environmental Factors & Working Schedule Must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day. Frequent reaching and bending and twisting below waist and above shoulders. Frequently required to use repetitive hand‑to‑finger motions and reach with hands and arms. Frequently lifting up to twenty pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds; push/pull up to 20 lbs. Ability to climb ladders, reach and bend. Work in temperatures ranging from 50 to 85 degrees, especially in our stock room areas. Use of a computer up to 60% of the time throughout the day. SMITs are expected to work five (5) days / forty (40) hours a week and adhere to the guidelines below: SMITs of mall and strip center stores must work at least two nights during the week until closing, one weekend night and one other night. Strip center SMITs must also work a full shift on Saturdays. Mall SMITs are expected to work peak business days including weekends (Saturday & Sunday). SMITs are expected to work a minimum of one full Sunday per month. SMITs of downtown stores must also work during the lunch hour of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Downtown SMITs must also work one night per week until closing if the store is open in the evening. SMITs of downtown stores are not required to work Saturdays. SMITs are expected to work all major U.S. holidays that the store is open.
