Position Summary

The Receiving Associate is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely receipt of stainless steel, nickel alloy, and other metal products entering the facility. The position verifies incoming material against purchase orders, packing slips, material markings, and required documentation before material is released into inventory. This role supports inventory accuracy, material traceability, and warehouse quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive incoming stainless steel, nickel alloy, and other metal products, including bar, plate, sheet, tubing, and related material forms.
• Compare incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
• Verify material grade/alloy, size and dimensions, quantity and/or weight, heat/lot numbers, material markings, and purchase order requirements.
• Safely handle long, heavy, bundled, or irregularly shaped metal products.
• Confirm required Material Test Reports (MTRs), certifications, or other documentation are present when applicable.
• Inspect incoming material for visible damage, rust, contamination, incorrect markings, shortages, or other discrepancies.
• Identify, document, and communicate receiving discrepancies before material is released into available inventory.
• Accurately complete receiving transactions in the company ERP/inventory system.
• Label, tag, and identify material according to company procedures and maintain traceability through receiving and put-away.
• Coordinate with Purchasing, Quality, Customer Service, and Warehouse personnel to resolve receiving discrepancies.
• Assist with determining proper warehouse locations and safely stage or put away received material.
• Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment as authorized.
• Assist with cycle counts, inventory verification, and research of inventory discrepancies as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized receiving dock and staging area.
• Report damaged, questionable, or nonconforming material to management or Quality before processing.
• Assist with unloading trucks and coordinating inbound deliveries.
• Perform other warehouse and receiving duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous warehouse, receiving, inventory, manufacturing, or metals experience preferred.
• Metals service center, steel distribution, manufacturing, or industrial warehouse experience is a plus.
• Ability to accurately read purchase orders, packing slips, labels, and material identification.
• Basic computer and data-entry skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to read measurements and use basic measuring tools.
• Forklift and/or overhead crane experience preferred; company training may be provided.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial warehouse environment.

Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate should be able to develop a working understanding of stainless steel and nickel alloy grades, material shapes and sizes, heat/lot traceability, MTRs, purchase order specifications, inventory locations, material identification, basic measuring equipment, and receiving/inventory -control procedures. Prior metals knowledge is preferred but is not required for an entry-level candidate who demonstrates strong attention to detail and the ability to learn.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, climb, and work around industrial equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry materials or supplies within company-established lifting limits.
• Ability to work in a warehouse environment that may be hot, cold, noisy, dusty, or dirty.
• Ability to safely work around forklifts, cranes, trucks, and heavy metal products.
• Regular use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
