The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Licensed Psychologist I. Licensed Psychologists I work in a variety of programs providing rehabilitative mental health and substance abuse services in clinical, institutional, and community settings to adults and children with severe mental or emotional disorders. Licensed Psychologists may provide clinical supervision and/or psychological testing supervision for interns and/or staff obtaining hours towards licensure. Incumbents may be asked to select, administer, score, and interpret a wide variety of objective and projective tests including intelligence, personality, aptitude, and achievement tests for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of mentally ill and emotionally disturbed clients. Immediate Vacancies Assisted Outpatient Treatment : Evaluate individuals referred for Assisted Outpatient Treatment based on criteria outlined in Laura’s Law pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code Sections 5345-5349.5; develop declarations and draft petitions to submit to Superior Court; and write progress reports for those individuals ordered into Assisted Outpatient Treatment. Serious and Persistent Mentally Ill involved with the Court System (Forensics) : Evaluate, facilitate, and provide direct care for justice‑system involved adults. Pre‑licensed therapists will assess adults upon referral for specialty mental health services under the provision and/or facilitation of Mental Health Court and Mental Health Diversion for adults who have been incarcerated or are at risk of being incarcerated. A majority of the face‑to‑face services are conducted within the clinic. Children and Youth Collaborative Services (CYCS) : Evaluate, facilitate, and provide direct care for system‑involved children and youth. Responsibilities include assessing foster youth upon initial entry into foster care with subsequent facilitation and/or provision of needed services; completing Qualified Individual (QI) assessments for youth referred to residential placement; and providing intensive specialty mental health services for very high‑needs children and youth. A majority of face‑to‑face services are performed in the community. Community Clinic : Located within a large community mental health clinic in Ontario, CA, working with a multi‑disciplinary team to serve serious and persistent mentally ill adults, children, and youth with serious emotional difficulties. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, collaboratively planning services, and administering direct services to individuals; majority of services are conducted within the clinic. Qualifications Licensed Psychologist in the State of California, with an active license in good standing. Experienced in government or private inpatient psychiatric hospital or behavioral health clinics/programs/contract agencies serving persistently mentally ill clients. Proficiency in child/adolescent and family therapy. Experience in crisis intervention/brief therapy with severely mentally ill adults/children. Quality assurance or utilization review activities. Experience with managed care or insurance plans such as Kaiser, Inland Empire Health Plan, or Molina Healthcare. Clinical screening/assessment duties in a call center environment, including screening and resource referrals to care. Grievances, beneficiary rights, and consumer complaints investigations and resolution. Intensive care coordination with physical health care providers for severely persistently mentally ill clients. Case management for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Coordinating care for individuals with co‑occurring substance disorders. Transitional care coordination between inpatient and outpatient levels of care for medical complexity or severely persistently mentally ill adults and children. Experience working with incarcerated individuals in correctional settings or with probationers/offenders recently released from a correctional setting. Conditions of Employment Pre‑employment process includes background investigation, fingerprinting, medical exam, and possibly drug or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. Travel throughout the county may be required depending on assignment. Clinical therapists regularly assigned to detention facilities or the Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit receive additional compensation. Indicate interest in such positions on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Applicants not licensed in California must apply for pre‑licensed psychologist positions. San Bernardino County does not sponsor visa applicants. Bilingual candidates fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required for additional compensation. Applicants should provide license number and expiration date on the Supplemental Questionnaire. A copy of the license is required upon appointment.
