An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management. Externs will also have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences at Countryside Countryside Animal Hospital of Hot Springs range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
