This role also includes advanced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support for water/wastewater treatment operations, including solving diverse operational and equipment issues, applying specialized maintenance expertise to improve reliability, and helping establish or refine techniques and approaches. The position may act as a project lead while still functioning as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities include:

- Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs); supporting maintainability reviews to ensure smooth operation.
- Overseeing regulatory compliance within the operational scope; applying knowledge of hazardous waste treatment and management protocols to workplace procedures.
- Performing field sampling and data collection for analysis, as needed to support operational troubleshooting and optimization.
- Overseeing staff augmentation as required and coordinating work activities to meet evolving operational needs.
- Inspecting, diagnosing, and troubleshooting process equipment (e.g., pumps, blowers, mixers, motors, grinders, valves, gates, actuators) to restore service and increase reliability.
- Identifying routine preventive maintenance needs (lubrication, alignment checks, belt/drive inspection, seal and bearing checks) and documenting findings and follow-up actions.
- Supporting instrumentation and controls upkeep by performing basic checks and coordinating needs (e.g., calibration support, sensor cleaning, verifying signals/alarms), escalating complex issues to I&C/SCADA specialists.
- Using a CMMS/work order system to evaluate maintenance work; identifying anticipated parts usage, labor, and specialty subcontractors.
- Coordinating with operations staff to plan equipment outages, work sequences, and return-to-service verification.
- Assisting with spare parts management (inventory counts, reorder triggers, vendor coordination) and recommending standardization or reliability improvements.
- Understanding asset management and assisting with development of an asset management program.
- Performing daily field inspections at plants and remote sites; responding to urgent maintenance needs as assigned. Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions affecting pumps, valves, actuators, and other process equipment.
- Communicating and coordinating with project teams including engineers, operators, subject matter specialists, and client management to plan work and report status.
- Independently managing assignments to meet safety, schedule, quality, and budget expectations; contributing to maintenance work plans and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Completion of a recognized mechanical apprenticeship program or documented journey-level mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.
