Mister Cheeks is looking for a natural leader who is passionate about training and developing a FOH team and performs at a high level in all functions of the FOH - Barista, Register, Food / Runner. This role is all about warm service, attention to detail, and keeping things running smoothly in a busy, upbeat café environment. The Lead Barista / Shift Lead serves as a role model and resource for other staff members. In the absence of Management, they will be called upon to problem solve and make time-sensitive business decisions. Mister Cheeks is an all-day café and neighborhood market located in the heart of Carroll Gardens, proudly owned and operated by a local family. We're on the hunt for passionate, creative team members who love great food, warm hospitality, and serving the community as much as we do. Guests can swing by our takeout window for coffee and soft serve ice cream, or step inside to browse a thoughtfully curated spread of house-made eats including pastries, soups, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, and seasonal salads. All of which can be enjoyed in our cozy indoor or outdoor seating — or picked up to go.

Lead by example at all times to show how a highly skilled and hospitable employee approaches their work in preparing food and beverages, serving guests, and helping co-workers

Foster a positive, fun, and friendly work environment with fellow staff members

Regularly taste beverages to ensure consistently high quality that meets standards

Support in the development of new beverage offerings and specials, educating and informing team about them

Lead your shift by ensuring the right people are in the right places to provide an exceptional guest experience

Assist with training new hires and continued development of current team members on new beverage and food offerings

Maintaining appropriate beverage stock levels and dry storage room (putting away orders, breakdown and disposal of cardboard)

Managing clock in / clock out times

Complete Shift Roster: assigning positions and side work tasks for FOH staff

Set opening Cash Drawer, confirm bank count

Coordinate breaks and cover positions while team members are on break and delegate times to complete side work / cleaning tasks

Communicate with Kitchen to determine if any specials or items are low stock or 86'd. Share updates with the team and adjust Toast accordingly

Ensure that the cafe remains DOH compliant throughout service

Close register & collect tips — cash drop (daily deposit + tips)

Complete and distribute Shift Report

A passionate and motivated customer service and hospitality professional with a strong attention to detail

Efficient, organized, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment

Eager to learn and grow your skills, with a commitment to excellence

A reliable and collaborative team player who values communication and support

Minimum 3 years of experience in hospitality spaces

Must have previous barista-training and 1+ years experience in coffee/espresso-service

Involves standing and walking the entire shift

Requires using hands to perform daily tasks

Involves frequent reaching, bending, and lifting

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly during the shift

Proposed Operating Hours of business: Mon-Fri 8am-7pm; Sat-Sun 8am-5pm

Employment with Mister Cheeks is on an at-will basis. This means that either the employee or Mister Cheeks may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice, subject to applicable federal, state, or local laws.

Compensation: Hourly ($19.00) plus tips
