Work Schedule Full time; 3 × 12‑hour shift; 7 am – 7:30 pm Job Summary As a Surgical Technologist (ST), you assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients from infancy to geriatrics under the direction of a professional nurse. The ST applies sterile aseptic technique, anatomical knowledge, and instrumentation skills to support invasive procedures in both operating rooms and ambulatory settings. Level I – New Graduate (up to 18 months experience) Assume responsibilities that demonstrate Service Excellence toward patients, physicians, peers, and other departments. Uphold the policies and procedures of the department and organization while learning and progressing toward Level II. Maintain sterile field and assist the team in upholding a sterile environment. Prepare the operating room with appropriate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts accurately and safely. Serve patients ranging from infancy to geriatric clients with proper technical skills. Respond to calls and rotate shifts as required under RN direction. If dual‑role in an ambulatory setting: prepare patients, assist examinations, collect and label specimens, reinforce postoperative instructions, assist patient calls, remove sutures or staples, change dressings, schedule cases, coordinate complex scheduling, and update medical records as supervised by RN or physician. Advance to Level II within 18 months. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. Level II – Advanced Surgical Technologist Build on Level I duties with additional teaching, leadership, and independent sterile field maintenance. Assist in teaching newly hired and student technologists. Serve as a role model for new employees and other staff members. Maintain sterile field independently and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Apply instrument knowledge to multiple cases and demonstrate appropriate case preparation. Correct case‑level deficiencies and communicate effectively with patients, staff, and physicians. Adhere to all unit, hospital, regulatory, and patient‑safety standards. Ensure policies, procedures, and safety practices of the operating room and hospital are reinforced. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or maintain accredited Surgical Technologist certification (NCCT or NBSTSA). or Provide evidence of completion of an appropriate Surgical Technology training program in the U.S. Military. Experience Level I: Entry‑level for new graduates or 0–18 months of experience. Level II: 6–12 months of full‑time equivalent Surgical Technology or relevant military experience. Licensure/Certification Level I: BLS required. Level II: BLS required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Adapt to changes within the unit. Work effectively and efficiently under pressure, often without relief. Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and instrumentation relevant to surgical procedures to anticipate the surgeon’s needs. Set priorities and respond appropriately to actual or potential life‑threatening situations.
