Dishwasher – Event Center

Position: Dishwasher
Department: Food & Beverage / Banquets
Reports To: Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, or Banquet Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Event-Based

Position Summary

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and dishwashing area before, during, and after events. This position supports the culinary and banquet teams by ensuring that dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment are cleaned and ready for use.

Because the event center hosts weddings, banquets, corporate functions, parties, and other special events, the Dishwasher must be dependable, efficient, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing event schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, serving utensils, and kitchen equipment.
• Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and properly.
• Maintain clean and organized dishwashing, kitchen, and storage areas.
• Sort, stack, and properly store clean dishes, glassware, utensils, and equipment.
• Remove trash, recycling, and food waste from kitchen and service areas as needed.
• Sweep and mop floors and clean spills promptly to maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist with cleaning kitchen equipment, work surfaces, sinks, drains, and other assigned areas.
• Help kitchen and banquet staff with basic setup, breakdown, and cleanup before and after events.
• Ensure adequate supplies of clean dishes and equipment are available throughout events.
• Follow proper sanitation, food safety, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures.
• Report damaged equipment, broken glassware, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns to a supervisor.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, or storing kitchen supplies when requested.
• Perform additional cleaning and kitchen-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous dishwashing, restaurant, banquet, catering, or kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Basic knowledge of sanitation and workplace safety practices is preferred.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on event needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and lift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
• Ability to work around hot equipment, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, and wet or slippery surfaces.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment.

Work Environment

This position works primarily in the kitchen and dishwashing areas of a busy event center. Work volume may increase significantly during large events and during event setup and breakdown. Team members are expected to maintain professionalism, cleanliness, and a positive, cooperative attitude while helping the facility provide excellent service to guests.
