About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening, Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Pediatric experience Level 1 or 2 trauma experience Ideal to have Cerner experience At least 2 years of ER experience Description: This position involves providing quality care in the emergency room setting. The emergency room treats an average of 140 to 180 patients per day. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 in the ER and 1:6 in urgent care. Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicide ideation. All registered nurses will be expected to triage patients who arrive by ambulance. The team includes ED physicians, mid-levels, and house supervisors. Patient care assistance is provided by nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and techs. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 but not present in the ER. Registered nurses are responsible for drawing labs, and phlebotomy handles blood cultures unless unavailable. The unit does not have a separate area for ER holds, and these patients are intermixed with other patients. Security is available 24/7 on-site but not housed in the emergency room. Monitor technology must be managed by registered nurses in the absence of dedicated monitor techs. Equipment includes GE monitors and various respiratory devices. Floating to other units for patient sitter duties may occur but is infrequent. Scrubs are required to be solid color, clean, and professional. Weekend and holiday work is required on an every-other basis. There is no on-call requirement. Shifts are scheduled by an RN scheduler, with no self-scheduling available.
