The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community facility, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
Position Overview:In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate the clinical status of patients, responding promptly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Key Competencies:- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' conditions and care needs, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Evaluate and manage pain using appropriate tools and techniques, educating patients and families about pain management. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and evaluations of effectiveness.
- Develop and update individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
- Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Provide all aspects of patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Design and implement teaching plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, evaluating the effectiveness of the education provided.
- Practice autonomously in line with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan, interpreting patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
- Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, insertion of peripheral and central monitoring lines, and epidural catheter placement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and the ability to utilize appropriate equipment.
- Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide suitable treatment.
- Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
- Provide accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
- Experience in critical care is preferred.
