Registered Nurse Emergency Room

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. The RN will assess, monitor, and treat patients presenting with a variety of urgent and emergent medical conditions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN will float between units and primarily work in the ED holding area, managing a patient ratio of 1 RN to 4 patients.

Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and provide timely interventions in the ER setting.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record system (Epic).
• Respond effectively to emergency situations and provide critical care support as needed.
• Manage patient flow and triage in the ED holding area.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in Emergency, Medical/Surgical, or critical care settings.
• Proficiency in clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication skills.
• Experience with electronic health records, preferably Epic.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a Level II Trauma Center or similar acute care facility.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
• Experience in pediatric emergency care.

Special Considerations:

• Floating between units as required, primarily in ED holding.
• Typical patient ratio is 1 RN to 4 patients.
• Weekend work required, typically every other weekend.
• No on-call requirements.
• 48-hour shifts are approved.

Scheduling:

• Shift schedules are not block-based and will be assigned as needed.
• Work schedule includes weekend shifts approximately every other weekend.
• Shift length may include 48-hour shifts as approved.
