Position Overview

Heywood Hospital is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) for a 13-week contract assignment. The OR RN will provide perioperative nursing care to surgical patients while collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary surgical team.

The ideal candidate will have strong operating room experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining patient safety and sterile technique standards.

Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, and sterile supplies
Maintain sterile fields and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques
Verify patient identification, surgical consent forms, and operative sites prior to procedures
Monitor patient condition throughout surgical procedures
Administer medications and IV therapy per physician orders and facility protocols
Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy
Handle and label surgical specimens appropriately
Assess and reassess patient conditions and responses to treatment
Document patient care, interventions, and surgical events accurately within Meditech EMR
Provide patient and family education regarding procedures and post-operative care
Respond appropriately during emergency situations within the operating room
Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current Massachusetts RN License required
Current BLS Certification required
ACLS required upon hire or must obtain within 60 days
Prior Operating Room nursing experience preferred
CNOR certification strongly preferred
Strong multitasking and organizational skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
