Title: Group Facilitator Intake Coordinator Unit: Alternatives to Incarceration Reports to: Group Facilitator Supervisor Status: Full Time; Regular; Non-Exempt Salary Range: $27.48 per hour (approximately $50,000.00 annually) Location: Long Island City, Queens Days/Hours: Varies Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, some evenings 11:30am - 7:30pm, subject to change depending on program needs. The organization has evolved into one of the nation's preeminent reentry and justice-informed service organizations, providing formerly incarcerated people with the skills and wrap-around services needed to break the cycle of crime and incarceration and to build productive lives in their communities.
Fortune has grown steadily over the years to an agency with close to $90 million in annual budget with just under 600 staff. We anticipate that we will keep growing, both in size and depth of service. Fortune has a dual mission: both advocacy and service. The advocacy portion of our mission focuses on building a more just criminal legal system and reducing the barriers to reentry into society. The service side of Fortune has evolved to encompass a broad range of programs that started with employment and education and now includes a robust array of services, among them: alternatives to incarceration, supervised release, court advocacy, discharge planning within correctional facilities, licensed substance use and mental health treatment, a housing continuum ranging from emergency and transitional through permanent congregate and scattered site housing, assistance in obtaining benefits, a care management unit, HIV services, a food and nutrition program, and an arts program.
Each service we provide is informed by the needs of the population we serve. Fortune currently serves approximately 14,000 people a year. Our program models are recognized, both nationally and internationally, for their quality and innovation. We have locations in Brooklyn, The Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. Position Summary: The Group Facilitator will support the Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) Department by facilitating evidence-based group interventions designed to promote behavioral change, reduce recidivism, and support participant rehabilitation. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive program intakes and assessments, orienting participants to ATI program expectations, and ensuring accurate documentation of participant engagement and progress. The Group Facilitator will create a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment that encourages participation, accountability, and skill development. Responsibilities include preparing and leading psychoeducational and cognitive behavioral groups, monitoring attendance and participation, managing group dynamics, and addressing barriers to engagement. The facilitator will collaborate closely with case managers, counselors, probation/parole representatives, and other service providers to coordinate care and support participant success. Additional responsibilities include maintaining timely case notes and reports in compliance with agency and contractual requirements, participating in staff meetings and trainings, tracking participant outcomes, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of ATI programming. The Group Facilitator is also expected to uphold ethical standards, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate cultural competence when working with diverse and justice-involved populations. Technical Skills Strong Microsoft Office and database entry skills as enrollments will need to be inputted into our case management system and this candidate must be able to maintain their schedule as they will be responsible for leaving time on their calendar for intakes Effective Communication and Relationship Building Ability to clearly convey information, listen actively, and build positive, trust-based relationships with clients, colleagues, or stakeholders. Organizational and Time Management Skills Exhibits excellent time management by prioritizing tasks of both intakes and group facilitations. Possessing the skill to balance multiple responsibilities efficiently. Plans proactively, adapts to shifting priorities when needed, and ensures work is completed accurately without sacrificing quality. Skilled at managing multiple tasks or cases efficiently, prioritizing responsibilities as both an intake coordinator and group facilitator and keeping accurate records to meet deadlines and ensure smooth operations. Facilitation Experience Demonstrates strong facilitation skills by effectively leading group discussions with clients. Creates an inclusive and engaging environment that encourages participation, manages group dynamics thoughtfully, and keeps sessions focused on clear objectives and outcomes. - Conduct initial intake process
- Facilitate virtual and in-person Anger Management, Seeking Safety, Interactive Journaling and Thinking for a Change group using evidence-based curriculums
- Ensure groups start on time, run as scheduled, and that clients adhere to group guidelines.
- Facilitate group sessions in a manner that creates an atmosphere in which self-disclosure is facilitated, helps clients gain group process skills and insight into problems and utilizes techniques effectively
- Prepare group activities and group plans in advance
- Address problem behaviors, confront counter-productive behavior appropriately in a manner that elicits respect and bonds with the patient while still enforcing program rules and regulations in a firm but fair manner
- Maintain healthy boundaries
- Assist clients in navigating their scheduled group attendance
- Participate in case conferences for optimum collaboration among departments and program.
- Communicate with other staff on any relevant behavioral concerns regarding a client that may arise during their group participation
- Enter timely and accurate daily group attendance and notes into the database systems
- Maintain electronic and hard copy filing system
- Attend and participate in scheduled staff activities, meetings and trainings
- Engage in his/her own ongoing professional development.
- Perform other duties as needed
- One year of group facilitation experience
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
- High school diploma or GED/HSE required.
- Experience and commitment to working with mandated participants with criminal justice involvement.
- Must be a team player and work with colleagues to address programmatic challenges as they arise
- Strong Time Management Skills
- Strong Microsoft Office and database entry skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
