L2/L3 Campus Network EngineerApex Systems has an immediate need for a (40% remote after the first few months) Campus Network Engineer in Chesapeake, VA. This will be an "est. 6 month contract with possible extension" opportunity, supporting one of our largest commercial clients across the East Coast.Core Focus: Solid understanding of Layer 2, foundational Layer 3, and introductory Wi-Fi concepts.Technical SkillsLayer 2 (Switching): VLAN creation, tagging, and trunkingPort security and access controlSpanning Tree Protocol (STP) fundamentals (PVST+, RSTP)802.1X basics and AAA authentication conceptsMAC address tables and ARP understandingLayer 3 (Basic Networking): IPv4 addressing and subnetting (Class A/B/C, private vs public)Default gateways and static routingIntro to routing protocols (basic OSPF and EIGRP concepts)Wi-Fi (Introductory Level): Understanding SSIDs, channels, and basic RF conceptsWi-Fi standards overview (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax)Basic AP setup and controller awarenessWi-Fi troubleshooting basics (signal strength, interference)Installation & Best Practices: Switch installation, racking, and cabling standardsPower and grounding considerations (PoE, UPS)Network documentation and labelingTools & Soft Skills: Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.)Wireshark basics for packet inspectionClear communication and adherence to change management proceduresEverforth Apex is a world-class IT services company that serves thousands of clients across the globe.
