Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. He/She assumes responsibility and accountability for patient care as a team member in order to achieve established outcomes. Performs non-interpretable data collection in an ongoing systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. Provides hygienic care and assists with ambulation and meals as directed by the registered professional nurse. Positions patients and provides pre-operative, post-operative, and post-mortem care as indicated. Provides a safe patient environment by answering call lights promptly. Communicates with the registered nurse immediately for any change in the patient's condition. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs, such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments. This process includes communicating with the patient and/or primary caregiver(s) at their developmental or educational level. Regular contact with healthcare personnel, patients, and visitors is required.
