Department: PCH-MAIN | Pharmacy Medication Recon Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun, Days Vary, Shifts Vary, 7am-11pm Category: Pharmacy Posting #: 1022046 Employee Type: Full-Time Position Summary This role, under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, assists in the procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, and delivery of medications and other pharmaceutical products to Phoenix Children’s patients in a timely and accurate fashion and in accordance with established regulations and procedures. It performs hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding and assists with the development, maintenance, and assessment of department policy and procedures. The position must maintain at least two position‑specific competencies in accordance with Pharmacy Department competency requirements and receives direct supervision from Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisors and Managers. Position Duties Preparing, dispensing and delivering medications and supplies to patient care areas. Assisting in accurately preparing and labeling medications in accordance with Board of Pharmacy regulations and department policy, deferring to a pharmacist when appropriate. Preparing medications and verifying accuracy under the supervision of a pharmacist prior to dispensing in accordance with scope of practice and department procedure. Delivering medications and supplies to patient areas per hospital and department timelines and guidelines. Restocking automated dispensing cabinets, rotating stock, and removing expiring medications of both patient‑specific doses and unit‑dosed items available in the patient care areas and medication rooms. Sterile compounding of hazardous and non‑hazardous medications in a negative‑pressure space per department policy, USP 797 and 800 Standards, Board of Pharmacy Rules, DEA regulations, and applicable regulatory agencies. Performing sterile and non‑sterile compounding of cytotoxic medications in a negative‑pressure space per department policy, USP 797 and 800 Standards, Board of Pharmacy Rules, DEA regulations and all applicable regulatory agencies. Completing necessary competencies or certifications for safe handling of cytotoxic medications, including technique verification, fluoroscopy testing and other evaluation methods where appropriate. Performing sterile compounding of hazardous and non‑hazardous medications per department policy, USP 797 and 800 standards, and completing corresponding records‑keeping and quality‑assurance documentation. Performing non‑sterile compounding and repackaging of hazardous and non‑hazardous medications per department policy, USP 795 and 800 standards, completing records‑keeping and quality‑assurance documentation, and ensuring final verification by a pharmacist. Assisting with the development, maintenance, and assessment of department policy and procedures, and participating in process improvement initiatives, in‑service programs, meetings, and conferences. Serving as a trainer for new staff as requested, and assisting with continuing education and competency development. Performing medication history collection and documentation, ensuring best possible histories from patients, families, caregivers, pharmacies and other healthcare facilities. Following standard operating procedures, policies and workflows related to the medication reconciliation process. Utilizing pharmacy information software to process requisition and medication requests, bill medications, and credit patient charge records for accurate revenue capture. Providing customer service support at the pharmacy: answering telephones appropriately, triaging calls, deferring calls outside normal scope to a pharmacist, and resolving issues independently when possible. Maintaining inventory levels of medications and supplies, assisting the pharmacy supply chain team with receipt of medications from vendors and Materials Management, rotating inventory to use oldest stock first, and removing expired supplies. Completing and documenting quality‑assurance measures and checklists, including refrigerator temperature logs, nursing unit inspections, inventory management logs, and other required records during a shift. Following department and hospital waste‑control procedures for pharmaceutical and non‑pharmaceutical waste. Performing miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (Required) One or more years of experience as a Phoenix Children’s Inpatient Hospital Pharmacy Technician or 4+ years of hospital pharmacy experience at an outside institution (Required) Experience with various types of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Required) Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Arizona (Required) National Certification PTCB, ExCPT or equivalent (Required) Additional certifications (Preferred): Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, Hazardous Drug Management Certificate, Medication History Certificate, etc. Current BLS Certification and/or Technician Product Verification Certificate (Preferred) Physical Requirements: climbing occasionally; fine motor skills constantly; hearing constantly; pushing/pulling constantly; reaching constantly; sitting frequently; standing frequently; stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling frequently; talking constantly; tasting/smelling frequently; walking constantly; near vision constantly; far vision constantly; color discrimination constantly; keyboard/mouse/computer equipment constantly; lifting up to 35 pounds frequently; lifting >35 pounds occasionally.
