Advanced Controls EngineerPOSITION PURPOSE The Advanced Controls Engineer will work on software design and development for the electromechanical controls systems of BAC's products. You will be a part of a growing team that is leading our digitalization journey. Members of this team will be challenged to innovate in quickly growing our digital footprint. We are looking for people who are motivated by thinking big, moving fast, and changing the way customers interact with software systems.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Participate on controls software development projects to provide technical solutions for required software features and implementations. Create software specification to meet controls systems requirements and customers' input Design, develop, and document software systems to control fan motors, pumps, valves, safety switches, heating elements, sensors, and other features which utilize electrical and/or mechanical control inputs and/or outputs to the system Implement features that require data communication into and out of BAC units for connection to customer building management systems and other control systems utilizing industry standard protocols such as Modbus and BACnet. Use diagrams and flowcharts to illustrate algorithms which align with required controls software features/functionality Produce efficient and elegant code that meets software spec requirements Analyze complex software issues and solve problems Provide inputs for "best practice" rules for software development and activities to promote standardization and security Use industry accepted best practices and current code compliant designs in all relevant work Identify and implement improvements to software development processes to increase productivity and quality of deliverables Support field issues as presented and work to satisfy the customer's expectation/timeline including troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading software Provide technical support for other departments Coordinate and participate in software design and code review within both internal and external development teams Support controls hardware development, including control panel layout, wiring diagrams, I/O selection, and component specification, in partnership with panel suppliers and the broader controls teamNATURE & SCOPE The Advanced Controls Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager – North America. This role will have significant interaction with cross functional teams. This role will have interactions with third party vendors, contractors, and outside customers.KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline Experience in HVAC applications a plus Experience in software languages such as C/C++, C#, Python, Structured Text, and PLC languages, Modicon, Carel or Beckhoff TwinCAT a plus Excellent remote communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills Ability to reasonably estimate and plan software projects 5+ years of experience in developing electro-mechanical control systems software 5+ years of hands-on controls implementation experience, including system integration, commissioning, start-up, and field deployment Hands-on controls hardware experience, including wiring, sensors, actuators, and I/O, with the ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Experience in HMI layout/graphics preview software Excellence in managing complexity and valuing differences Software development Agile experience Knowledge of issues tracking systems, DevOps a plus Knowledge of revisions management software, GitHub a plus Experience with electrical control cabinet/panel design, field wiring, and hardware integrationWORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
