The RN coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in patient and family teaching, and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively with ancillary nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members to maintain professional nursing standards and performance in the clinical setting.The RN manages both medical-surgical and telemetry-monitored patients and must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and acuity of patients served in the assigned unit.Essential FunctionsObtains and documents patient data in an objective and professional mannerCommunicates pertinent patient information throughout the shift and during handoffDocuments all aspects of the nursing process accurately and timely in the EMRMonitors telemetry patients and interprets cardiac rhythms; responds appropriately to changes in conditionPrioritizes care for both Med-Surg and Telemetry patients based on acuityAdministers medications safely and accurately per Texas Board of Nursing standards and facility policyImplements Plan of Care from admission and updates daily based on patient needsProvides patient and family education including diagnosis, treatment, telemetry monitoring, and discharge planningUtilizes SBAR for communication with physicians and interdisciplinary teamsEnsures patient safety through fall precautions, infection control, and core measure compliancePerforms blood glucose monitoring and ensures glucometer QC complianceUtilizes Alaris IV pump with correct programming and guardrail complianceResponds to changes in patient condition with urgency and appropriate clinical judgmentAssists with admissions, discharges, and transfers as neededFloats to other units as required based on staffing needsBehavioral StandardsTreats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints and questions; displays a positive attitude.Communication and KnowledgeWears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer's and co-worker's time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.Collaboration/TeamworkAttends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.RequirementsExperienceMinimum 6 months of RN experience requiredMed-Surg or Telemetry experience preferredAbility to read and interpret EKG rhythms preferredActive RN license in the State of TexasBLS (AHA required)ACLS (AHA required or preferred based on unit needs)Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
