Responsibilities The Critical Power Group is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on most major UPS manufacturers of static equipment (e.g., MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, and Powerware/Eaton to name a few). Our technicians perform preventive maintenance and equipment testing as well as emergency service calls at high profile government, institutional and commercial customer facilities. The Critical Power Group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions of M.C. Dean, Inc. Field Service Operations Travel daily to customer sites and work independently with minimal supervision. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and maintain emergency response availability when scheduled, excluding approved PTO or designated off-call periods. Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Static Switches, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and related power electronics equipment. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on contracted equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company standards. Conduct system inspections, including initial, in-process, visual condition, operational, and final inspections. Perform maintenance operational checks, failure analysis, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on power backup systems and associated controls. Utilize electronic and electrical test equipment to evaluate system performance and ensure operational reliability. Maintain operational proficiency with: Digital Multimeters Micro-Ohm Meters Insulation Test Equipment Battery Testing Equipment (Alber, Midtronics, or equivalent) Customer Support & Technical Expertise Serve as the primary customer interface during service activities. Provide technical support, guidance, and recommendations to customers, site personnel, and engineers. Advise customers on maintenance best practices, procedures, and system reliability improvements. Deliver technical assistance, maintenance support, and training to site personnel as required. Resolve technical issues by interpreting and applying applicable codes, standards, technical publications, and manufacturer documentation. Inspection, Compliance & Quality Assurance Inspect and certify power electronic systems and components for compliance with applicable codes, specifications, publications, and quality standards. Certify inspection results and system compliance through documented reports and customer sign-off. Review system drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for accuracy and completeness. Identify and resolve discrepancies between recorded and actual system configurations through research and field verification. Document system changes and maintain accurate records for future reference. Prepare detailed inspection findings, corrective action recommendations, and system improvement reports. Support the implementation and enhancement of quality control programs and maintenance practices. Documentation & Reporting Complete Field Service Reports, time sheets, expense reports, inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and on schedule. Maintain and review technical documentation, manuals, records, and training materials. Protect company proprietary information, documentation, and records at all times. Communicate work status, availability, and project updates to Team Leads, Managers, and the corporate office. Teamwork & Professional Development Coordinate and oversee subcontractors performing work on behalf of M.C. Dean when required. Participate in product-specific training and ongoing technical development as directed by the company. Cross-train and mentor team members as needed. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Equipment & Vehicle Responsibilities Safeguard company-issued equipment, tools, test instruments, and materials. Maintain company or personal vehicles in safe operating condition and carry required insurance coverage. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with M.C. Dean quality standards, policies, and safety requirements. Physical & Travel Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, and installing batteries and electrical equipment. Ability to work in industrial, commercial, and mission-critical environments. Willingness to travel overnight as required at company expense. Availability to support customers on a 24x7x365 basis when assigned to on-call duties. Supervisory Controls Work is performed under the general supervision of Regional Managers and Team Leads. Assignments are provided with established schedules, priorities, and general instructions. Employees are expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative while operating within company policies, procedures, and project requirements. Completed work is reviewed for technical accuracy, compliance, quality, and overall effectiveness. Position Purpose The primary purpose of this position is to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and certify power electronic systems and their critical components. This role supports the delivery of reliable, available, and high-quality power systems while improving and sustaining the maintainability and performance of customer electrical infrastructure. Qualifications Education & Experience Associate's Degree (A.A.) or Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university; equivalent military training or relevant field experience may be considered. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with UPS systems, batteries, electrical test equipment, and associated power distribution equipment, including switchgear, electrical panels, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and generators. Technical Knowledge & Skills Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and troubleshooting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), preventive and corrective maintenance practices, supply procedures, and quality control standards. Demonstrated ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair activities. Proficient in the use of electrical test equipment, laptop computers, software applications, and electronic communication devices. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers, team members, and management. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety. Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
