Athletic Trainer

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer helps maintain the physical well-being of interscholastic student-athletes through the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic health care program that focuses on injury prevention and provides for injury evaluation and immediate care and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as deemed necessary by NJ DOE Certification.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be registered by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners as an Athletic Trainer.
• Must hold and maintain CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer.
• Show evidence of successful experience in working with student-athletes.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

• Provides immediate care of athletic injuries and ensures the student-athletes follow-up with medical personnel or facility when necessary in accordance with district policies.
• Supervises and maintains the training room.
• Works cooperatively with the team physician and under his/her directions regarding rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes and physician/hospital referrals.
• Maintains accurate medical records for injuries, treatment and rehabilitation.
• Coordinates the report of athletic injuries and handling of medical insurance claims with the school nurse and Athletic Director.
• Assumes responsibility for the budgeting, purchasing, and inventorying of athletic training supplies.
• Works cooperatively with all coaches in selecting protective equipment.
• Develops and maintains an effective training program for student-athletes.
• Provides in-season and post- season conditioning programs and athletic trainer services at interscholastic athletic events and practice sessions as assigned including away football games.
• Provides for the prevention of injuries through the application of protective taping, wraps, and braces, and assists in the design of practices to help to reduce the incidence of injury.
• Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes under the direction of a licensed referring physician.
• Maintains open communication with coaches, parents, and physicians regarding athletic injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Develops and implements a system of ongoing review of the effectiveness of the athletic program in preventing injury or illness.
• Supervises student assistants.
• Reports all serious injuries to the principal, school nurse, coach, and athletic director.
• Provides in-service training program for interested staff members on injury prevention and safety at least (2) times per year.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.

Salary Range: $67,000 to $111,625 Employment Period: Ten (10) Month Union Affiliation: NTU
