Registered Nurse in Outpatient InfusionAt RWJBarnabas Health, our Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurses play an essential role in providing compassionate, specialized care to patients receiving oncology and hematology treatments. As a Registered Nurse in Outpatient Infusion at our Williamson Street location, you'll combine clinical nursing expertise, critical thinking, and patient education to deliver safe, individualized treatment in a supportive ambulatory care environment. From administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy to monitoring treatment responses and managing symptoms, you'll help patients navigate their care with confidence and compassion. Working closely with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, you'll coordinate treatment plans, support continuity of care, and contribute to positive patient experiences and clinical outcomes.As an Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:Performing comprehensive nursing assessments to evaluate patient conditions, treatment readiness, and ongoing clinical needsAdministering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, iron infusions, IV hydration, and other prescribed intravenous therapies in accordance with established clinical protocolsAdministering blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and prescribed injections while maintaining patient safety and monitoring for complicationsMonitoring patients throughout treatment, assessing responses to therapy, and promptly identifying and addressing adverse reactions or changes in conditionProviding symptom management and individualized nursing interventions to support patients experiencing treatment-related side effectsPerforming assessments, maintenance, and nursing care for venous access devices to support safe and effective infusion therapyEducating patients and families about treatment plans, medications, potential side effects, symptom management, and follow-up careProviding telephone triage to assess patient concerns, offer appropriate nursing guidance, and coordinate timely clinical follow-upCollaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to implement individualized plans of care for oncology and hematology patientsCoordinating multiple appointments, treatments, and clinical services to promote continuity of care and a positive patient experienceMaintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, including nursing assessments, administered treatments, patient responses, and education providedSupporting a safe, organized, and patient-centered infusion environment through effective communication, teamwork, and adherence to established nursing standardsThis Role Might Be For You If:You are passionate about providing compassionate nursing care to patients receiving oncology and hematology treatmentsYou enjoy working in an outpatient setting where you can develop meaningful relationships with patients throughout their treatment journeyYou are comfortable administering intravenous medications and therapies while closely monitoring patient responsesStrong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills allow you to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriatelyYou understand the importance of safe infusion practices, vascular access care, and effective symptom managementYou enjoy educating patients and families and helping them better understand their treatments and ongoing healthcare needsYou are comfortable providing telephone triage and communicating clinical concerns to physicians and other healthcare professionalsYou value interdisciplinary collaboration and enjoy coordinating care to support safe, timely, and effective treatmentYou are organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple patients, appointments, and clinical prioritiesYou bring empathy, professionalism, and strong communication skills to interactions with patients and familiesYou are committed to patient safety, clinical excellence, and delivering a positive patient experienceTo be considered for this Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse opportunity, you must hold an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program, possess a current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license, and maintain BLS certification. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Previous oncology nursing experience and ambulatory care experience are preferred but not required. Hospital or subacute nursing experience is also relevant to this opportunity. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical assessment, intravenous therapy, medication administration, symptom management, venous access care, patient education, and care coordination skills. Candidates should be comfortable administering specialized infusion therapies, monitoring patient responses, providing telephone triage, and collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to carry out individualized treatment plans. Strong communication, critical thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.This is a full-time, day shift, hourly opportunity supporting the Outpatient Infusion department at the Williamson Street location of RWJBarnabas Health.
