Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, located in San Luis, Arizona. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above. Responsibilities This position will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide substantive clerical support to CBP management. This position starts at a salary of $40,736.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $59,031.00 (GS-06, Step 10) with promotion potential to $59,031.00 (GS-7 Step 10). In this position, you will strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland by joining a valuable team of administrative professionals. Typical work assignments include: Assisting in preparing press releases and in planning for public affairs campaigns, e.g., arranges for meeting space and drafts handouts. Coordinating, developing, and disseminating information material to various target audiences. Assisting with fleet program and assisting with incident management. Maintaining basic fleet records and receipts. Coordinating routine maintenance, accountability for use of vehicles, receipt reconciliation usage reports, assists in maintaining compliance including home to work. Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing routine clerical support to the organization. Disseminating information material to various target audiences. Ensuring receipt of all items ordered, have been met for paying vouchers and invoices. Assisting with the annual physical inventory of nonexpendable property and equipment. Using various software packages, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, etc., to produce, store, and retrieve a variety of information and presentations Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting in preparing press releases and in planning for public affairs campaigns, e.g., arranges for meeting space and drafts handouts. Assisting in preparing budget requests by compiling data and preparing justification statements based on information provided by senior Mission Support Specialist. Entering data into database programs and generates various management reports. Maintaining the organization's personnel files and records. Assisting users in the organization with software, hardware, and automation problems Education Substitution GS-05: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite may substitute for specialized experience at this level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Education Substitution GS-06: There is not an educational substitution at the GS-06 grade level. Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours, then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/02/2026.
