About the Position : Analyst / Associate

SeaChange uses a flexible staffing model in which every team member works across programs and contributes to the organization’s administration, operations, communications, and strategy. The Analyst/Associate will work across SeaChange’s lending and grantmaking programs, and will also contribute to advisory and analytical projects.

The Analyst/Associate will support the full lifecycle of grants and loans, including screening, due diligence, structuring, proposal, approval, execution, portfolio management, and reporting. Within this context, the Analyst/Associate’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Mergers and Collaborations :

• Assist with select merger and collaboration deals, including screening nonprofits, conducting due diligence, and preparing proposals for investment committees
• Support maintenance of the internal grants database;
  evaluate grants and request reporting from grantees as appropriate
• Produce reports and assist in drafting grant proposals for funders

Lending & Investment :

• Assist with select credit transactions by screening potential borrowers, conducting relevant due diligence (i.E., reviewing & analyzing financial, legal, and organizational documents), and drafting investment recommendations and term sheets
• Provide portfolio management support by helping maintain loans database;
  evaluate transactions and borrower performance;
  manage and maintain internal transaction/contact tracking systems (i.E., Salesforce) and associated communications;
  produce quarterly funder reports

Advice & Analysis :

• Support and produce analysis for advisory projects and research reports for nonprofits and coalitions;
  create any associated deliverables (e.G., presentations, metrics, summaries, etc.)

The Analyst/Associate will contribute positively to the teamwork, culture, and learning of a small, entrepreneurial organization, living our values of respect, do no harm, confidentiality, neutrality, equity, independence, and added leverage. In each area, the Analyst/Associate will work closely with and be supervised by the relevant member of the SeaChange team, but SeaChange Partners – John MacIntosh (Managing Partner), Taj Tabassoom (Lending & Investment), and Lindsay Kijewski (Collaboration Grantmaking) – will be responsible for overall supervision.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally related to finance, philanthropy, business/nonprofit management, economics, public policy, or other related fields
• 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent
• Strong commitment and interest in social impact and the nonprofit sector
• Superior organizational, process, and time management skills as demonstrated by an ability to manage and prioritize multiple, detailed projects, and to drive toward deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, projections, and other quantitative information, or a strong analytical foundation and demonstrated capacity to develop these skills quickly
• Self-starter with exceptional oral and written communications skills, including the ability to synthesize complex financial and organizational information into clear memoranda, recommendations, reports, and presentations
• Analytical prowess and superior attention to detail
• Professionalism with a high level of maturity, poise, and judgment
• Strong supportive and problem-solving orientation both internally and externally
• Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, appreciate differences in perspectives, and work toward shared goals and objectives
• Humble, learning-oriented, and ego-free demeanor in all interactions

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Pro
• Required to work in the New York City office in a hybrid arrangement 2-3x/week, and to travel to the Philadelphia office on a regular (i.E., quarterly) basis

Preferred:

• Professional experience/background in finance, lending, grantmaking/writing, strategy consulting, fund/portfolio management, accounting, nonprofit facilitation, community development, etc.
• Familiarity with Salesforce, WordPress, QuickBooks, InDesign, and/or Python
• Master’s degree or similar professional degree, ideally related to finance, philanthropy, business administration, nonprofit management, or other related field
• Sense of humor!

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range : $65,000 to $85,000, commensurate with title & experience
• 403(b) retirement plan after six months of employment + 2:1 contribution match

Title (i.E., Analyst vs. Associate) will be determined based on relevant experience. Associates will generally be expected to independently manage more complex workstreams, take greater ownership of transactions and external relationships, and prepare near-final materials for senior review.

Because SeaChange is small by design, the Analyst/Associate must be energized by building while doing. This is a role for someone who is comfortable with range - keeping transactions moving, engaging with nonprofits and funders alike, and even pressure-testing Salesforce and AI tools to improve efficiency.
