Culinary Arts Instructor - Correctional Programs (Part-time)The Culinary Arts Instructor - Correctional Programs (Part-time) is responsible for providing quality instruction in lab and lecture in the correctional setting. The Instructor is responsible for checking emails, preparing inventory and grocery lists for the department head, and class preparation to prepare students for a successful career.QualificationsAssociate's degree from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor and demonstrated competencies in the teaching disciplineMust have a minimum of 2 years of kitchen experienceExperience teaching in adult education or correctional settingsSERV Safe certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hireStrong communication, organizational, and classroom management skillsAbility to work effectively in a secure, structured environmentLicensure and/or certification requirements specific to the teaching discipline and external governing agencies shall be on file with Human ResourcesWorking Conditions:Work is performed in a correctional facility with exposure to secure environments and strict protocolsCandidate must be willing to work in a correctional facility in direct contact with incarcerated individualsMust be able to walk around the kitchen to oversee student labs and give inputFrequent standing for several hours per dayFrequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campusesHours will vary based on correctional facility and courseEssential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe duties of the Culinary Arts Instructor - Correctional Programs (Part-time) include, but are not limited to:Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching disciplineInstruct students in food preparation, cooking techniques, baking, nutrition, menu planning, and kitchen operationsEnforce sanitation, hygiene, and safety protocols in accordance with local health codes and facility regulationsPlan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learningEmploy available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriatePrepare and present material for program classes according to curriculum guidelinesDesign, write, administer, and grade exams, quizzes, and other forms of student evaluationMotivate students to attend class, as measured by an acceptable rate of attendance and retentionReceive positive and acceptable student feedback in evaluationsKeep accurate attendance records in two forms, a daily sign-in sheet for participants and a classroom recordMeet deadlines for required paperworkExhibit professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, and team members, and corrections staffShow enthusiasm to teach, understand and apply current best practices in classroom techniques and materialsPlan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learningWork with corrections program staff to maintain safety in the classroomMaintain accurate student recordsEnter student attendance into Self-Service dailyAdhere to all facility rules, regulations, and security protocolsMonitor and control the use of potentially hazardous tools and ingredientsReport any incidents, safety concerns, or behavioral issues promptly to appropriate personnelOther duties and responsibilities as assignedNotice of NondiscriminationLenoir Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
