The Manager, Nursing - Inpatient is responsible for providing, and ensuring that staff under, their direction provides the highest levels of professional nursing and clerical support serves in a health care setting. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties related to the management of health care services within an inpatient healthcare setting. This role exercises considerable independent judgment in managing the delivery of inpatient healthcare services. This position is responsible for the 24 hour clinical operations of their respective units and develops and implements smooth functioning of all component elements, to achieve optimal provision of services to all patients and customers while providing continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and/or services.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Oversees patient flow through designated clinical areas.

2. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.

3. Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

4. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements, and to other governing agency regulations, and measuring health outcomes against standards.

5. Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff.

6. Completes patient care requirements by assigning nursing and staff.

7. Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.

8. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their friends and families.

9. Promotes patients’ independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching and counseling patients, and reinforcing patients’ understanding of disease, medications, and self-care.

10. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

11. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing related procedures, rules, and regulations.

12. Accounts for the collection of data to ensure performance improvement and optimal customer service standards.

13. Assures all staff meet mandatory continuing education requirements and yearly hospital-based competencies.

14. Provides insight on the unit(s) operations to nursing leadership to assist in the development of strategic planning and departmental expansion.

15. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS ​

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida RN license required Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements

Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required

• Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management.

• Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.

• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively
