The Outlet Cashier supports the mission of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries by providing courteous customer service, accurately processing customer purchases, and assisting with overall store operations. This position operates the cash register, supports merchandise recovery and display areas, assists customers, and follows store procedures to ensure an efficient, professional, and welcoming retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet customers as they enter the store and assist them in finding items and answering questions.
• Provide courteous and professional service at all times; bag merchandise and assist with carrying purchases to vehicles as needed.
• Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
• Perform all cash register duties accurately and efficiently; count cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Ensure two initials are included on Daily Deposit and Bank Deposit forms; follow all cashier training manual procedures and store cash-handling requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready retail floor; keep merchandise orderly and presentable on the blue sales tables.
• Support table turns by helping maintain a safe, organized, and efficient shopping environment; offer shopping baskets when available.
• Maintain cleanliness of the sales floor, front-end area, entrances, and customer common areas; follow safety procedures and use required safety equipment as assigned.
• Monitor customer activity; address concerns such as unsafe behavior or safety hazards and report observations of theft, security concerns, or policy violations to management.
• Follow all rules and procedures in the personnel handbook and cashier training manual; suggest improvements in workflow or operations to increase efficiency.
• Promote the mission, values, goals, and objectives of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A criminal background check is required and will be conducted in accordance with applicable law and Goodwill policy.
• This role requires the ability to communicate with customers, team members, and supervisors in a professional retail environment.
• This role requires the ability to follow basic written and verbal instructions and perform basic cash-handling and customer service duties.
• Must be willing to accept instructions and carry them out with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work and cooperate with others.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but all educational backgrounds considered. Up to one month of related retail, cashiering, or customer service experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered. Previous cash-handling or POS/register experience preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to:

• Frequently stand and walk throughout the sales floor for extended periods; frequently bend, reach, stoop, twist, kneel, or crouch while assisting customers, organizing merchandise, and performing cleaning duties.
• Occasionally push, pull, lift, carry, or move merchandise, shopping baskets, supplies, and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds; heavier items should be moved with assistance or appropriate equipment.
• Operate a cash register/POS system, scanner, telephone, and other standard retail equipment; use hands and fingers to perform cash handling and keyboard duties.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors in a fast-paced retail environment; read and interpret price tags, receipts, register screens, and store-related documents.

Work Environment

This position operates in a retail store environment with frequent interaction with customers, donors, team members, and supervisors. Noise levels may range from quiet to moderately noisy. Occasional exposure to dust, lint, animal hair, outdoor weather conditions near entrances or donation areas, and standard cleaning supplies or store equipment may occur. Safety equipment may be required based on assigned tasks.
