About Fort Logan Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHFL) is one of two state hospitals serving the community. The vision of CMHHFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental health illness within the resources available. The mission is to support individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHHFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-49. The hospital has 94 adult inpatient beds, over four treatment units, and opened an additional 44 beds (two units) in December 2022. These units provide psychiatric stabilization and restoration treatment to individuals legally incompetent due to mental illness. Medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital. Responsibilities Provide therapeutic work supporting adults with acute and chronic mental illness. Engage with patients to establish & maintain therapeutic relationships under nurse supervision. Model professional boundaries, assist patients in developing insight, and facilitate one‑on‑one interactions and psycho‑educational groups. Act as patient advocate by providing education on patient rights, addressing concerns, and referring to Patient’s Rights Specialist when needed. Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, toileting, and showering, as appropriate. Escort patients to appointments and act in charge of paperwork, maintaining confidentiality. Maintain clear communication with the nurse and treatment team via sign‑out/sign‑in systems. Document patient care and responses to treatment per hospital policy. Assist patients in developing lists of positive supports. Milieu Management: Assure a safe therapeutic environment through effective milieu management and surveillance. Facilitate solution‑oriented problem‑solving and encourage self‑determination. Monitor safety, address violations, and intervene promptly in crisis situations (e.g., physical or verbal assault, suicidal behavior). Use appropriate techniques such as Verbal Defense and Influence and Crisis Prevention Intervention to manage aggressive behavior. Engage patients in unit activities, including impromptu groups, discussions, and games; monitor meals for choking or swallowing issues; and communicate concerns to the nurse. Interdisciplinary Team Treatment Implementation: Participate in treatment planning and development of the plan of care. Contribute information and approaches to support patient health and wellness. Advocate for patient interests and input into the care plan. Other Duties as Assigned. Qualifications Minimum Experience: Three (3) years in customer service or in a hospital or mental health setting. OR Education and Experience: Combination of related education (psychology, sociology, human services, biology) with experience equal to three (3) years. Special Qualification: Must be at least 21 years of age. Preferred: 1+ year as a Mental Health Care Clinician I at the State of Colorado Mental Health Institute; 1+ year in inpatient secured settings; experience developing & running treatment groups; experience with Trauma‑Informed Care and Recovery Principles; outpatient group & case management experience; college or university education in nursing, psychology, sociology, human services, or education.
