About the Position The Lead Speech Language Pathologist provides clinical oversight, instructional support, and educational guidance to graduate students in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) program. The position also supports coordination of clinic operations and provides administrative support to the Clinical Program in collaboration with the Coordinator of Clinical Education and the department at large. Please note: Review of applications will begin on June 5, 2026. Responsibilities Clinical Instruction and Oversight Provide daily direct clinical oversight, including approximately 50% for in‑person and 100% line‑of‑site review for teletherapy clinicians (an average of 10 students/semester). Complete daily documentation review in Clinic Note, including editing and revision for a minimum of 3 documents per clinician‑client pair each week (1+ hour per client, weekly), and 3 substantial reports per client per semester (approximately 1‑1.5 hrs per report, for each assigned client). Provide balanced and constructive written and verbal feedback, including demonstration and consultation, to support student clinicians in managing client communication needs and implementing treatment plans. Conduct weekly debrief sessions for all assigned clinicians. Hold weekly office hours to provide additional consultation, mentorship and educational support. Oversee diagnostic evaluations, as scheduled by the Coordinator of Clinical Education. Provide targeted clinical guidance to at‑risk clinicians, ensuring areas identified in support plans are addressed and assessed as assigned by the Coordinator of Clinical Education. Provide materials and other resources (e.g., books, web‑based content, journal articles) to support evidence‑based practice and clinical learning; coordinate acquisition of needed clinic materials. Provide clinical coverage and guidance as needed, in the absence of other lead staff. Clinic Administrative Support Complete all clinician and supervisor clinic documents prior to each semester, including the Clinic Calendar, Room Schedule, Supervisor Planning Meeting Schedule, All‑Clinician’s Meeting Notes, and CANVAS postings. Communicate clinic assignments, planning meeting schedules, and clinic documentation expectations to all clinical supervisors and student clinicians, as directed by the appropriate administrator. In collaboration with the appropriate administrator, train new clinic supervisors by providing initial onboarding/training in all clinic procedures, processes and documentation (Clinic Manual, Clinic Note EMR, CALIPSO, shared Google Drive) at the start of the semester. In collaboration with the appropriate administrator, provide ongoing training and support to all Clinical Supervisors, with regular training and provision of updated written processes and samples throughout the semester to address clinical expectations, best practices in supervision, standards of documentation, conferences, student concerns, etc. Respond to student communications regarding current or future clinical placement questions, concerns, aligning with the chain of communication posted in the Clinic Manual. Coordinate onboarding and support for SLHS Writing Tutors once hired, meeting weekly or bi‑weekly to ensure writing expectations are clearly communicated and student clinicians’ writing aligns with Rees Clinic and professional standards. Update and maintain the Clinic Manual, along with clinical documentation examples and requirements, as appropriate. Collaborate with the Coordinator of Clinical Education regarding clinical issues as they arise. Coordinate and work with Department ASC, as needed to ensure client privacy and adherence to clinic procedures/protocols. Clinical Education Provide weekly instructional support for SLHS 600 (Foundations of Clinical Practicum), including participation in 2 weeks of daily “bootcamp”‑style training sessions to prepare new clinicians for clinic processes and expectations. Support student clinicians in completing compliance requirements and accurate documentation within CALIPSO. Train new clinicians in correct completion of CALIPSO documentation for clinical hours across the Big‑9, and self‑assessment of clinical performance. Complete syllabus revisions each semester to align with identified areas in need of additional support in accordance with accreditation standards. Improve and develop student clinician skills through lab/demonstrations, lectures, data collection, writing quizzes, and opportunities to brainstorm challenges in clinical cases. Serve as primary clinical educator for all new graduate clinicians. Serve as primary clinical resource when the clinician’s assigned supervisor is not available. Departmental Responsibilities & Other Duties as Assigned Participate in all department and committee meetings, as requested by SLHS Chair. Participate in graduate admissions process as assigned by Program Coordinator. Complete review of comprehensive exams as requested by SLHS Chair. Participate in professional development activities, including conferences (e.g., CAPCSD), as requested by SLHS Chair. Minimum Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of clinical speech pathology work; speech anatomy and the basic pathologies involved in diseases or injuries resulting in physical and language disorders; current literature in the speech pathology field; and applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of speech pathology and patient confidentiality. ABILITIES: Ability to effectively perform patient speech pathology evaluations and therapeutic interventions and demonstrate techniques to students; initiate and develop quality standards and protocols to ensure accuracy in tests; effectively use equipment for evaluations and therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, audiometers, sonographs, language masters, delayed auditory feedback, and biofeedback equipment; communicate effectively with patients, parents, faculty, and staff and write professional‑level reports and correspondence; plan, organize, and coordinate clinical operational activities; supervise students; maintain patient confidentiality as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and parents; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients, parents, and students. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree or equivalent in speech‑language pathology or audiology from an educational institution approved by the California Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board and equivalent to two years of clinical speech pathology work or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS: Possess and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association and a valid license from the California Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board. Preferred Skills and Knowledge Familiarity with accreditation standards, certification standards, licensure requirements, and credential requirements for speech‑language pathology. Experience providing clinical instruction, mentorship, or training to graduate‑level speech‑language pathology students. Experience reviewing and providing feedback on clinical documentation (e.g., evaluation reports, progress notes, treatment plans). Experience coordinating clinical education activities, including scheduling, onboarding, and multi‑stakeholder communication. Familiarity with clinical and educational systems (e.g., CALIPSO, EMR systems, Canvas or similar platforms). Experience developing or delivering instructional content (e.g., labs, lectures, workshops, or clinical training modules). Knowledge of California State University policies and procedures. Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
