General Description of the Job (tasks, duties, roles, expectations):

The Electrical Estimator prepares comprehensive, accurate estimates for self-perform and subcontracted electrical construction work on industrial and heavy-commercial capital projects, based on bid plans, specifications, and other project documents. Estimates may be conceptual or fully detailed depending on the level of completed engineering and design, and may be structured as lump sum, time and material, or negotiated/fixed fee. Estimates are developed using manual methods, spreadsheets, or commercial estimating software, and reflect ITAC's self-perform means and methods as well as subcontracted and vendor-supplied scope. 

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

• Attends pre-bid meetings and site walks as directed to evaluate project scope, site conditions, access, and logistics. 

• Reviews plans, drawings, specifications, and addenda to fully understand the scope of work; requests additional information or clarifications as necessary. 

• Performs detailed material take-offs for both self-perform and subcontracted scopes of electrical work. 

• Inputs material take-offs into the appropriate estimating format. 

• Obtains material pricing and inputs it into the estimate. 

• Develops and applies labor-hour estimates using historical production data, industry-standard labor units, and crew composition appropriate to self-perform installation methods. 

• Inputs labor task items into the estimate format as needed. 

• Prepares subcontractor and vendor scope packages, solicits and levels pricing, reviews submitted scope for completeness, and incorporates it into the estimate. 

• Coordinates with project management, operations, and safety personnel to validate means, methods, schedule assumptions, and site logistics reflected in the estimate. 

• Issues completed estimates for management review, incorporating markups, contingencies, and risk allowances as directed. 

• Modifies the estimate based on management input and re-issues with final pricing. 

• Communicates clarifications, exceptions, and qualifications to the Business Development group for incorporation into the bid submittal document. 

• Supports handoff of awarded projects to the project management team, including buyout support and estimate-to-actual reconciliation. 

• Maintains and helps develop historical cost and productivity data to improve the accuracy of future estimates. 

• Performs other estimating and preconstruction duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

• Knowledge of estimating software (Trimble Accubid Anywhere or similar); familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, and Microsoft Excel preferred. 

• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable industry standards. 

• Knowledge of electrical construction means and methods, including self-perform labor productivity and crew planning. 

• Ability to read and understand complex electrical, control, and instrumentation schematics and drawings. 

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 

• Thoroughness, reliability, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. 

• Able to plan, organize, and manage multiple bids or estimates concurrently to meet deadlines. 

• Able to work independently with little supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team. 

• Willing to seek help or guidance when necessary. 

• Disciplined in maintaining accurate, well-organized, and auditable estimate records. 

• Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and competitively sensitive information. 

Education & Experience 

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• 10+ years of experience in industrial and heavy-commercial construction environments. 

• 5+ years of proven experience as an estimator or in a similar preconstruction role. 

• Experience estimating self-perform electrical scope (power distribution, grounding, cable tray, conduit and cable installation, terminations, low/medium voltage, and instrumentation & controls) strongly preferred. 

• Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or equivalent field experience, is a plus. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment 

• Primarily an office environment involving extended periods of sitting and computer use. 

• Periodic travel to job sites, client facilities, and industrial or manufacturing environments for pre-bid walks and project coordination. 

• Site visits may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the ability to navigate active construction and industrial environments, including walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and working around heavy equipment. 

• Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required.

The typical salary range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000.
