Comptroller - State Police Corporal (Austin)

Job Overview The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) enforces criminal provisions of the state's tax laws administered by the Comptroller's Office. An officer makes arrests and conducts long‑term, complex criminal investigations that are referred to state and federal prosecutors. The role requires Monday‑through‑Friday, 40‑hour weeks with occasional evening, weekend and holiday work. Responsibilities Investigate criminal offenses, obtain and execute warrants, assist other law enforcement agencies, conduct undercover investigations, make arrests, and provide security. Locate, contact, interview, and take statements from witnesses, suspects, and individuals with knowledge of tax fraud. Evaluate, summarize, and prepare investigative reports for prosecution. Maintain case files, evidence, and administrative records. Conduct inspections, enforce agency regulations, collect and evaluate evidence, and testify in hearings, trials, and other official proceedings. Prepare reports of investigations and criminal cases for prosecution and maintain records of investigative cases, evidence, and property. Coordinate with local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies to obtain or provide information concerning criminals and criminal activity. Work with county and district attorneys and/or federal prosecutors to respond to and prepare for effective prosecution efforts. Testify in formal administrative and criminal court proceedings. Participate in joint initiatives with other governmental law‑enforcement agencies. Serve as a field training officer and provide guidance as required. Perform related work as assigned. Qualifications Education : Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, criminal justice, or a related field is generally preferred. Experience : Experience in law enforcement work. Licenses and Certifications : Certified as a Texas peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver's license, current proof of automobile insurance, and a satisfactory driving record. Physical Requirements Must be physically fit to perform arrests, conduct sedentary office work, and carry out investigative duties requiring standing, walking, and mobility. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed for filing and routine office duties. Normal cognitive abilities necessary for learning, recalling, and applying policies and procedures. Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; marginal or corrected visual and auditory abilities required for reading printed materials and computer screens. Ability to transport a tablet and printer to assigned locations and lift, pull, and transport records, documents, boxes, and related items weighing up to 50 pounds when required. Ability to travel and sit for long periods of time while traveling. Participation in the physical readiness assessment. Additional Information Salary is contingent upon qualifications. Minimum salary posting applies to candidates without State Law Enforcement Schedule C experience; higher salary considerations are available to current or prior Schedule C candidates.
