Staff Accountant I

Staff Accountant IWe are seeking a talented individual to join our Fiduciary Accounting team at Marsh. This role will be based in Urbandale and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of six days per month in the office.As a Staff Accountant I, you will provide accounting support requiring familiarity and experience in accounting practices. You will have the opportunity to add value as a key contributor to the team.We will count on you to:Review, process, and reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, as well as related general accounting entriesPrepare and analyze customer receipts, vendor invoices, payments, credits, debit memos, and refunds to ensure accuracy and proper codingInvestigate and resolve discrepancies, unapplied cash, short pays, overpayments, outstanding balances, and invoice or payment issues in a timely mannerPerform account reconciliations and support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including aging reviews and reportingMonitor AR/AP aging and follow up on past due balances, invalid deductions, and open items to maintain clean ledgersPartner closely with internal teams and vendors to resolve billing, payment, and account issues efficiently and professionallyMaintain strong documentation and support internal controls, SOX/compliance requirements, and audit requestsIdentify process improvements and assist with implementing workflow enhancements to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalabilityAssist with special projects, ad hoc analyses, and other duties as assignedWhat you need to have:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field1+ years of accounting experience, with hands-on exposure to both accounts receivable and accounts payableExperience in a high-volume environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelStrong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organization, attention to detail, and time management skillsAbility to work independently while also collaborating effectively across departmentsWhat makes you stand out?Prior experience in a high-volume AR/AP environmentExperience with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similarFamiliarity with month-end close and account reconciliationsExposure to cash applications, vendor management, or billing operationsDemonstrated success improving accounting processes, controls, or reporting efficiencyWhy join our team:We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.Marsh is a global leader in risk, reinsurance and capital, people and investments, and management consulting, advising clients in 130 countries.
