Physical Therapist

This position evaluates and implements physical therapy for patients with neurological, burn/wound, or musculoskeletal injuries, or patients with other acute or chronic physical disabilities. Physical therapy techniques are used to relieve pain, restore function, and facilitate independence. An individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate and assess the patient's abilities and limitations.
  • Establish a plan of treatment and goals based on the referral and evaluation of functional skills, joint mobility, gait, developmental reflexes, muscle strength, tone, and coordination, sensation tests, and other measures to ensure rapid patient recovery.
  • Implement therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques within the scope of physical therapy.
  • Educate the patient and/or caregiver about the findings of the evaluation, established goals of the physical therapy program, plan of treatment, home programs, injury prevention, and other related information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of physical therapy modalities.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment, complete the equipment justification forms, and arrange for the delivery of equipment.
  • Re-evaluate patients, assess their progress, and make recommendations regarding discharge.
  • Consult and co-treat with other patient care team members to discuss patient progress, set objectives for patient treatment, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other activities.
  • Evaluate home or work environments and make physical barrier modification or ergonomic recommendations.
  • Assists with departmental program development and training of physical therapy students.
  • Provide in-services for staff and other employees in the community.
  • Document patient care according to established criteria.
  • Supervise the patient care activities of aides, assistants, attendants, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in departmental in-services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings, and other related activities.
  • Assist with departmental operations and ordering supplies.
  • Ability to work with all age groups of patients, adjusting the evaluation and treatment to these groups as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians.
  • Safely operate equipment used in the course of physical therapy job duties.
  • Treat patients with respect and dignity.
  • Identify and address the psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Ensure that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrate good infection control, safety, and ergonomics.
  • Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies.
  • Display and promote company values.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of computer skills is required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with strong written and verbal skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations professionally. Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and regulatory environment.

Stand an average of 7-8 hours per workday. Walk an average of 6-7 hours per workday. Bend/Stoop frequently (20-30 times/day). Squat several times (20-30 times/day). Reach above shoulder level frequently (20-30 times/day). Carry up to 50 lbs of weight as needed. Lift heavy, awkward weight up to 100+ lbs as needed. Use hands for repetitive action and fine dexterity tasks constantly (greater than 25 times/hour).
