Medical Lab Scientist Technical Specialist - Chemistry

Position Title Medical Lab Scientist Technical Specialist - Chemistry Days - Full Time Bell Hospital Position Summary / Career Interest The MLS Technical Specialist participates in all departmental responsibilities for comprehensive laboratory testing for patients. This includes ensuring patients laboratory results are accurate, timely and of high quality. They are also responsible for overseeing the laboratory department in the absence of the manager/supervisor, and serve as the technical specialist and domain expert for issues that arise in the department. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Analyze patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and record results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy. Assist with departmental management tasks, including maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and reagents, scheduling and coordinating departmental staffing, participating in financial planning and oversight, and contributing to competency training and reviews. Coordinate quality assurance and quality improvement activities for the department. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation, safety, hospital standards and policies; keep policies and procedures up to date. Instruct, orient and mentor students, employees, residents, patients and other healthcare providers as applicable. Complete continuing education and submit appropriate documentation where applicable. Oversee calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and quality control for instrument issues; review and manage instrument documentation. Provide oversight for the review and correlation of results with each other and with the patient’s condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values. Verify accuracy of results and initiate corrective actions when indicated. Use and wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as necessary to perform job duties safely and minimize risk. Perform professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Other duties may be assigned as required.
