Full-time, Permanent, 6 hrs/day

Benefits: Health insurance: Employees working 30+ hours per week - Eligibility will begin the 1st of the month following your date of hire. The state will pay for the majority of the cost and the district will provide up to $180 monthly ($90 bi-weekly) towards your employee benefit costs. Once the paycheck deductions begin, you will see a credit of up to $180 per month ($90 bi-weekly) in your paycheck. Prescription coverage is through CVS Caremark. Dental insurance: Employees working at least 18.75+ hours per week, the school district will contribute up to $75/month towards the cost of the insurance. Vision insurance: All employees are eligible to purchase vision insurance thorough EyeMed at full cost. District paid life insurance: Employees working 20+ hours (support staff) are eligible. A $25,000 policy is carried on each employee at no cost. Additional benefits can be found on the Cape Henlopen School District website.

Qualifications

Communicate in an appropriate fashion with student and employees. Be able to comply with all district transportation requirements and Board of Education policies.

Requirements

Must be a high school graduate. Must have and maintain a positive relationship with special needs children. Must cover additional work as required. Must complete training as required. Must have CDL license with school bus endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience preferred. Current up-to-date records on file in the transportation office.

Safely Operating the Bus

Navigating through traffic and various road conditions. Ensuring the safety of all passengers by following traffic laws and company policies. Enforcing passenger rules and regulations. Providing courteous and helpful service to passengers.

Knowledge

Knowledge of safe practices and guidelines concerning school bus transportation. Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques. Knowledge of students' IEPs, behavior plans, and medical needs. Knowledge of health and safety regulations. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE including suspected child abuse and/or neglect. Knowledge of how to communicate and provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and families by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Abilities

Ability to read, write, and communicate with others. Ability to keep proper documentation regarding students, seating arrangements, and more. Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner. Ability to monitor a school bus safely and efficiently. Ability to utilize strategies that keep students calm and interacting safely while riding the bus. Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while serving as a monitor. Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties. Must be able to lift over 30 pounds. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
