Nutrition Services Assistant

School District 49 is actively seeking a Nutrition Services Assistant at district wide vacancy. Calendar: School Year - 164 days for elementary or 169 days for secondary. Reports to: Kitchen Manager. Hourly rate of pay: Starting pay is $17.65 per hour to $22.22 per hour depending upon previous relevant experience. Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application. Full-time or Part-time: Part-time working approximately 2.5 to 5 hours per day depending upon work location. Benefits: Paid sick leave may be available. Interviews are site-based and not conducted by the Human Resources office.

The Nutrition Services Assistant is responsible for food preparation, serving food, restocking lines, and clean-up after lunch.

• Professional and efficient meal prep, hold, presentation and service to all patrons.
• Process transactions using point of sale register system.
• Prepare menu from recipes as directed. Prepare any items that require extra prep time for the next day as directed by the lead.
• Break down lines after lunch, and clean kitchen.
• Hold, clean up and store all menu and ala carte items in service areas after serve according to HACCP, national, state and district compliances.
• Inventory milk after lunch and give data to kitchen manager for ordering purposes.
• Sweep and mop store room and coolers, scrub, polish, clean and maintain all kitchen equipment as needed for proper upkeep.
• Perform regular monitoring of temperatures and procedures when operating all equipment such as computers, dish machines, coolers, freezers, food holding areas, ovens, thermometers and other kitchen equipment in compliance with HACCP regulations.
• Maintain Professional Standards as required under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required; experience in school food services or restaurant preferred.

Knowledge of general cash register procedures. Ability to operate patron account management system.

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• Certification in Sanitation required within 6 months after hire.
• SNA certified required within 3 years of hire and maintained.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate. Frequently required to compare, analyze, copy, coordinate, evaluate, and negotiate. Occasionally required to instruct, compute, compile.
