Job Title: Electrician Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Construction

Job Description

This construction-focused electrician role supports the rapid build-out and commissioning of industrial and data-center facilities. You will install, terminate, and energize new low-voltage (415 V / 480 V) and medium-voltage (12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, 34.5 kV) electrical infrastructure from drawings, then turn systems over to operations. The work is hands-on field construction and commissioning, not facilities maintenance or plant operations. This is an hourly position with overtime and significant travel on a rotation schedule.

Responsibilities

• Install and terminate new low-voltage electrical infrastructure, including conduit, cable tray, underground duct bank, cable, wire, and 480 V building and feeder work.
• Perform hands-on work on 415 V and/or 480 V systems such as switchgear, busway, PDUs/UPS, main switchboards (MSBs), and grounding systems.
• Build, pull, land, torque, and energize new electrical equipment strictly following construction drawings, one-line diagrams, manuals, and work packages, then turn completed systems over to operations.
• Support first energization of new 480 V systems by following established lockout/tagout and grounding procedures and adhering to NFPA 70E requirements.
• Install medium-voltage e-house switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), 15 kV and 35 kV cable, and associated duct bank for campus MV systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV.
• Perform and support medium-voltage terminations and commissioning activities, including hipot and VLF testing, ensuring all terminations are completed to manufacturer and project standards.
• Work adjacent to live medium-voltage buses while maintaining strict compliance with MV switching, clearance procedures, OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E, and lockout/tagout policies.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, one-lines, and work packages to plan and execute installation and termination work accurately.
• Use common electrical test tools such as multimeters, meggers, and ammeters to verify installations, troubleshoot issues, and support commissioning.
• Perform physical construction work including routing, installing, and securing conduit and tray, making terminations, and completing all required land and torque operations.
• Travel with project teams to active industrial and data-center construction sites, mobilize to new locations as facilities come online, and work on a rotation with 80% or more travel.
• Work nights, weekends, and extended shifts as needed during construction and energization phases to meet project schedules and milestones.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and site-specific safety requirements, while working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of industrial or data-center electrical construction experience installing conduit, cable tray, underground duct bank, cable, and 480 V terminations.
• State journeyman electrician license for low-voltage inside wireman work.
• At least 5+ years of medium-voltage construction experience at 5 kV or above; 415 V / 480 V experience does not count toward medium-voltage requirements.
• Documented experience performing 15 kV and/or 35 kV terminations, supported by resume details or manufacturer terminator cards; general familiarity with medium voltage is not sufficient.
• Hands-on experience with 415 V and/or 480 V equipment including switchgear, busway, PDU/UPS, main switchboards, and grounding systems.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, manuals, and detailed work packages.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures; OSHA 10 alone is not sufficient.
• Proficiency with common electrical test instruments, including multimeters, meggers, and ammeters, as well as standard construction hand and power tools.
• Comfort with hands-on installation work, including reading prints, performing terminations, landing and torquing conductors, and completing physical construction tasks.
• Ability to lift more than 50 pounds, work at heights, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to work in an hourly role with overtime, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization activities.
• Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation, with readiness to live on the road and move with projects as sites change.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience specifically in industrial or data-center construction or commissioning, rather than facilities maintenance, service work, or plant operations.
• Experience with LV inside-wireman duties in a construction environment, including installation of building and feeder work at 480 V.
• Familiarity with campus medium-voltage systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV, including e-house MV switchgear, GSUs, and MV cable routing.
• Understanding of OSHA 1910.269 requirements for medium-voltage switching and clearance in addition to NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout.
• Comfort working adjacent to live buses and energized equipment while following strict safety protocols and clearances.
• Openness to an hourly compensation structure with overtime, high travel percentage, rotation-based scheduling, and per diem or housing while on site.
• Experience supporting hipot and VLF testing on medium-voltage systems as part of commissioning activities.
• Ability to function effectively as part of a traveling internal construction team, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and other trades at active construction sites.

You will work around low-voltage systems at 415 V and 480 V and campus medium-voltage systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV, installing equipment such as switchgear, busway, PDUs/UPS, main switchboards, e-house MV switchgear, generator step-up transformers, medium-voltage cable, and duct banks. The role requires extensive hands-on construction work using common electrical test tools (multimeter, megger, ammeter) and standard hand and power tools. This is an hourly position with overtime, and you should expect 80% or more travel on a rotation schedule, with per diem and/or housing provided while on site. Work may take place at night, on weekends, and in extended shifts during critical construction and energization phases. You will work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions, following NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.269, and lockout/tagout procedures in a safety-focused environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $70.00/hr.
