Overview Possesses and applies broad clinical knowledge and expertise including concepts, practices and procedures of registry field to accurately and comprehensively abstract national clinical registry data in support of organizational objectives. Performs broad and varied work that is somewhat difficult in character and clinically thorough, and involves additional reporting responsibility. Acts as a clinical metrics consultant, modeling appropriate behavior exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Responsibilities Provides reports, clinical data, and analysis from analytic tools for identifying and communicating clinical performance metrics. Creates analytic tools for identifying and communicating performance from internal and external data sources including assigned registries. Manages, modifies and maintains assigned clinical database. Serves as primary liaison with third‑party vendors, database end users, and clinical decision support department. Provides clinical oversight and analytical support for identifying best practices and supporting collaborative results. Designs and implements new clinical reporting systems for internal and external benchmarking and is responsible for existing report oversight and distribution. Collects clinical data for inclusion within a specific clinical database in support of organizational quality and safety initiatives. Responsible for abstraction and clinical oversight to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data sets provided by Decision Support to pediatric collaboratives and databases/registries. Performs other job functions as assigned or requested. Education & Formal Training Required - Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management Required - Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Administration Required - Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required - Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy Preferred - Associate's Degree Preferred - High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred - Master's Degree Healthcare Administration Preferred - Master's Degree Nursing Preferred - Master's Degree Respiratory Therapy Work Experience Required - Clinical healthcare role or clinical quality/outcomes experience; work with clinical data to abstract and translate customer needs into functional and technical requirements, model, and develop reporting solutions. 3-5 years Preferred Substitutions Allowed: Master’s degree may substitute for one year of related experience. 5-7 years Preferred Substitutions Allowed: In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have an Associate’s degree in one of the above degrees with five years of experience in a clinical healthcare role or clinical quality/outcomes experience. 7-9 years Preferred Substitutions Allowed: In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have high school diploma or equivalent with seven years of experience in a clinical healthcare role or clinical quality/outcomes experience. Licenses and Certifications Preferred - Registered Nurse Arkansas – Arkansas State Board of Nursing Preferred - Registered Respiratory Therapist – Arkansas – Arkansas State Medical Board Preferred - Registered Nurse Mississippi – Mississippi Board of Nursing Preferred - Registered Health Information Technician – American Health Information Management Association Preferred - Licensed Practical Nurse – Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Nursing Preferred - Registered Health Information Administrator – American Health Information Management Association Preferred - Licensed Practical Nurse – Mississippi – Mississippi Board of Nursing Preferred - Registered Respiratory Therapist – Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care Preferred - Licensed Practical Nurse – Arkansas – Arkansas State Board of Nursing Preferred - Registered Respiratory Therapist – Mississippi – Mississippi State Department of Health Preferred - Registered Nurse Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Nursing Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of EMR and clinical abstraction and/or familiarity with research design, methodology, metrics and clinical data review and abstraction. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflow/processes. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Proficiency in the use of electronic medical records and clinical software applications. Demonstrated ability to display information persuasively in support of qualitative and data‑driven, clinical and operational decision making. Ability to translate and explain clinical findings using graphical reporting tools and visualization for display of data, results, metrics and outcomes. Ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks, organize tasks, and maintain control of workflow. Ability to work effectively and productively without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in decision making. Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to all levels within the organization. Ability to comprehend moderately complex written materials (e.g., technical manuals, medicolegal documents, etc.). Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are light work – exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
