Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 06:45 - 19:15 Experience: Minimum of 2 years required, 3 years preferred License: Current state license required Certifications: BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP Must-Have: Experience with over 300 births per month Ability to handle double labor assignments Familiarity with EPIC charting system Description: RTO after booking is not allowed. Any call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation. This unit is considered difficult and fast-paced. The nurse must be comfortable working in an environment with a high volume of births. Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on this unit. The typical patient ratio is 2:1, with an average of 20 births in 24 hours and 30-40 admits. The unit sees approximately 40 visits per day, with 20 available rooms. Travelers with one previous assignment are accepted. However, candidates must have experience in a high-volume setting. Local candidates are accepted, but their rate may differ. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend, with a minimum of six weekend shifts over six weeks. The patient population includes obstetrical patients who are 16 weeks or greater, as well as high-risk antepartum and postpartum care. The birthing unit has a triage area for patient screening prior to admission. Routine outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, and medication administration are performed. Scheduled and unscheduled cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage are common. The unit operates in a very fast-paced manner, with higher acuity than expected. It may not be feasible for nurses to take 48-hour contracts due to the busy nature of this unit. Preferred candidates should have circulating experience in an operating room.
