Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Polysomnographer Discipline: Allied Health Professional Duration: 9 weeks 40 hours per week Shift: 8 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Clinical Polysomnographic Technician Job Summary The Clinical Polysomnographic Technician is responsible for performing and efficiently conducting polysomnographic diagnostic testing. This role requires a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, and sleep/wake pathology. Excellent communication skills are essential for patient education, safety, and comfort, as well as for discussing clinical situations with physicians. Attention to detail is critical to ensure the quality of data collected during polysomnographic studies. The technician must maintain vigilance in a non-stimulating environment, assimilate data from multiple sources, and anticipate care initiation per protocols to prevent patient harm. Quick and calm reactions in emergencies and adherence to patient confidentiality guidelines are mandatory. Required Qualifications • Associate's degree from an accredited school in Polysomnography. • BLS certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross. • RPSGT Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification. • New York State Registered Polysomnographic Technician or Respiratory Therapist license. Preferred Qualifications • Previous experience in Sleep Medicine. • NYS licensed Respiratory Therapist certification. Additional Information • Reviews patient information and verifies study orders. • Explains testing protocols to patients and caregivers. • Sets up and performs studies per policy and AASM guidelines. • Monitors patients for clinical and physiological events, taking appropriate actions. • Conducts titration and split-night studies as per policy or physician orders. • Scores studies in accordance with AASM scoring manual guidelines. • Completes scoring promptly and prioritizes it over non-patient-related tasks. • Notifies medical staff of adverse changes in patient conditions during studies. • Assists in training new personnel. • Performs other duties as assigned.
