THE HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE
Where Talent Meets Opportunity

Peds/PICU Nurse Manager
Southwest | Permanent

We are partnering with a long-standing, nonprofit, community-owned hospital in the Southwest to identify a Peds/PICU Nurse Manager for its Women’s & Children’s Services team.

This is an opportunity to join an organization that has been caring for its community for nearly 80 years and has built a culture around integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. Because the hospital is locally governed and community owned, leadership is able to make decisions with the needs of patients, families, staff, and the local community in mind.

T he Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Women’s & Children’s Services, this leader will oversee:

  • 33-bed Pediatric Med/Surg Unit
  • 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Approximately 54 FTEs
  • Clinical Nurse Leads on each shift who support scheduling, problem solving, interviews, annual reviews, and day-to-day operations

This is a well-established, close-knit pediatric team with a strong sense of ownership and pride in the care they provide. They are looking for a leader who understands that relationships matter — someone who can earn trust, become part of the team, mentor staff, and continue building on an already strong foundation.

Pediatrics & PICU
The pediatric program cares for patients from newborn through young adulthood across a wide range of medical and surgical needs.

Pediatric Med/Surg

  • 33 private rooms
  • Medical and surgical pediatrics
  • Orthopedic cases including scoliosis, fractures, and congenital repairs
  • Cranial surgeries
  • Diabetes care
  • Transitions from NICU and Mother/Baby
  • Video epilepsy monitoring
  • 1:5–6 RN ratios with PCT support

PICU

  • 12 private rooms
  • Critically ill infants, children, and young adults
  • Respiratory illness and respiratory failure
  • Complex surgical and cranial cases
  • Scoliosis surgery
  • Diabetes and medical admissions
  • Video epilepsy monitoring
  • 1:1–2 RN ratios

Both units practice interdisciplinary bedside rounding with physicians, nursing, social work, case management, pharmacy, and ancillary teams. Parents are welcomed at the bedside 24/7, and family-centered care is not simply a philosophy — it is how the team works every day.

Why This Hospital
This organization offers something increasingly difficult to find in healthcare: the resources and clinical capabilities of a well-established hospital with the feel of a community organization.

Leaders describe the culture as supportive, collaborative, and relationship driven. The hospital invests in its employees, offers opportunities for growth and advancement, and looks for leaders who value mentorship, accountability, quality, safety, and authentic relationships with their teams.

The broader organization has continued to grow its services, specialties, physician partnerships, and community presence while maintaining its nonprofit, locally focused mission.

Why the Location
The hospital is located in one of the Southwest’s most livable communities, offering more than 300 days of sunshine, mountain views, a strong outdoor lifestyle, and a cost of living that remains attractive compared with many larger Western markets.
Outside of work, the area offers:

  • Hiking, biking, golf, and year-round outdoor recreation
  • Easy access to mountains, national parks, and desert landscapes
  • A nationally recognized food scene
  • University and cultural amenities
  • Strong schools and family-friendly communities
  • Convenient access to regional travel throughout Arizona, California, Nevada, and Mexico

For someone looking for a leadership opportunity that also offers quality of life, this market deserves a serious look.

Ideal Background
We are looking for a nurse leader who brings:

  • Strong clinical experience in Pediatrics and PICU
  • Experience caring for both high and lower-acuity pediatric populations
  • 3–5+ years of nursing leadership/management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Current or eligible Arizona RN license
  • A leadership style centered on relationships, mentorship, accountability, and collaboration

Compensation & Benefits
The organization offers competitive compensation along with:

  • Leadership incentive opportunity
  • Relocation assistance
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Career development and advancement opportunities
  • Health and wellness programs
  • Generous PTO and additional employee benefits
