Housekeeping Aid Supervisor

Summary This position is located at Kayenta Health Center, Kayenta, Arizona. Serves as Supervisor for Housekeeping Section. Incumbent is responsible for providing a clean Health Care Facility environment, supervises employees and purchases supplies and equipment. Conducts long and short term planning and provides in service training. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Responsibilities Supervises and assigns housekeeping staff, establishes work schedules and priorities, and ensures adequate staffing, equipment, materials, and resources to maintain hospital/clinic sanitation standards. Inspects hospital areas to ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, infection-control practices, equipment sanitation, and timely reporting of needed repairs. Trains and develops housekeeping personnel in routine and advanced cleaning techniques, isolation procedures, contaminated-area cleanup, proper handling of soiled linen, and environmental sanitation practices. Manages housekeeping operations, including linen inventory and records, cleaning and paper supplies, uniforms, equipment needs, work schedules, leave schedules, requisitions, and improvements to procedures and workflow. Performs personnel management duties, including performance appraisals, addressing complaints and disciplinary issues, recommending personnel actions, approving leave and occasional overtime, reassigning staff during emergencies, and implementing continuous training programs. Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment. A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service. Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability. Applicants are strongly encouraged to prioritize this requirement and to maintain regular communication with their assigned Personnel Security Specialist throughout the process. Financial Suitability Requirement: This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination. Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility, maintain good standing with creditors, and satisfy all legal financial obligations prior to applying. Individuals with substantial delinquent or unresolved financial obligations-including, but not limited to, delinquent federal or state tax liabilities, defaulted federal student loans, court-ordered fines or fees, or child support arrears-may be deemed unsuitable for employment with the Indian Health Service (IHS). Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume. Physical Effort: Moderately physical effort is required to continuously perform manual cleaning tasks. Position requires walking, standing for long periods, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture, cabinets, and lifting items over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Position works inside with adequate lighting and ventilation. Occasionally works outside when washing windows and when assigned to clinics outside of the main buildings. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazards, moving objects, crowded rooms, and wet slippery floor surfaces. Subject to cuts and bruises when lifting and moving heavy items, and minor shock when working with power machines. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases, danger of falling off stepladders when cleaning high areas, hanging draper or curtains. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information IHS Selectees whose duties and responsibilities require them to work permanently, temporarily, or occasionally in an IHS healthcare facility must comply with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine-preventable diseases, consistent with recommendations for healthcare workers. Vaccine exemption requests may be available, as outlined in the IHS Employee Immunization Policy and facility guidance. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is ineligible for the Bargaining Unit. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required. Physical Demands: The work involves walking, sitting, standing, reaching and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients. Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license op operate a government owned or leased vehicle in performance of some duties.
