The following sections describe the role, responsibilities and requirements for the Staff Psychologist position within Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at UNC Chapel Hill. The CAPS unit provides psychological services to all students enrolled at UNC Chapel Hill who have paid the student health fee, including individual, couples, and group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach services and medication evaluation and management. Campus Health Services and CAPS is a unique health care entity and duties may differ from typical academic unit roles. This position involves working within the context of health care delivery, including adherence to HIPAA, JCAHO considerations, coding, billing, electronic health records, and electronic insurance filing. Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides psychological services to all students enrolled at UNC Chapel Hill who have paid the student health fee. The team offers individual, couples, and group therapy, same-day triage, crisis intervention, outreach, and evaluation/management of medications. The team also performs risk assessment for the Dean of Students office. This unit operates within Campus Health Services and CAPS, not as a traditional academic department, and responsibilities reflect health care delivery requirements. Position Summary The Staff Psychologist is a professional, licensed or licensed-eligible to practice psychology in the State of North Carolina, or holds an equivalent degree and license. They provide individual and group therapy and assessment; supervise practicum students and interns; conduct outreach programs; and provide crisis intervention, including daytime and weekend on-call services. The therapist also engages in consultation with the University community and participates in counseling-related campus committees. The role includes health education through individual contact with student clients. Minimum Education and Experience Relevant professional degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health practice. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Psychology. Board certification is expected. Psychologists who have just completed their internship will be given adequate time to convert from board eligible to board certified. Equivalent degrees in social work are also acceptable. The Staff Psychologist must: - Have a current knowledge in depth of the field and its standards of practice - Have experience working with traditional college-aged students - Have a commitment to the practice of quality mental health services Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience working with traditional college-aged students (18-25). Prior experience in a university setting and understanding of maturation processes during the college years are desirable.
