Firefighter Paramedic

La Grange Fire Department - Firefighter/Paramedic The La Grange Fire Department is seeking a diverse pool of applicants for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates must complete all testing within this timeframe. Key Dates and Steps Step 1: Initial Eligibility Register – After the testing window, a register of candidates who achieve the minimum passing score will be established. Candidates have 10 days to submit documentation for preference points consideration. Step 2: Final Eligibility Register & Interviews – Preference points are applied and a final register is established. Candidates participate in oral interviews with the La Grange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The final register is posted publicly and remains valid for two years. Step 3: Selection & Pre‑Employment Screening – Selected candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings. Mandatory Orientation Program – All applicants must review the mandatory orientation video and acknowledge completion by uploading the acknowledgment document. Requirements Written Examination – Required. Minimum passing score: 70 %. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) – Required. Must submit proof of a valid CPAT and approved Ladder Climb card issued within the last year. Personal History Statement (PST) – Required within 7 days of passing the required exam(s). Age – Must be at least 21 and under 35 years of age at the time of application. Citizenship – Must be a U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen. Education – High school diploma or equivalent required. Driver’s License – Valid driver’s license required. Criminal Background – No adult felony convictions. Veteran’s Preference – Up to 5 points if previously served in the U.S. armed forces for at least one year of active duty and honorably discharged, or served in inactive/reserve duty. Paramedic Certification – Must possess a current EMT‑P certified license at the time of appointment for the paramedic track. EMT‑B Certification – Must possess a current EMT‑B certification at the time of application. Educational Preference – Up to 4 points (not cumulative): 1 point for an associate’s degree in fire service or EMS, 2 points for a bachelor’s degree in any field, 4 points for a master’s degree in any field. Experience Preference – Up to 5 points: 0.5 points per year (max 5) for part‑time/paid‑on‑call Firefighter II/EMT‑B or EMT‑I; 1 point per year (max 5) for part‑time/paid‑on‑call Firefighter III/EMT‑P; 5 points for two‑year full‑time firefighter or firefighter‑paramedic experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
