Advanced Practice Manager - Inpatient Surgical Services Department: Health System Shared Services | Health System Nursing Administration Location: James Cancer Hospital (0375) Position Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: Varying Shifts Scope of Position The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager works with Advanced Practice Provider and Division leadership and will function in liaison, oversight, and mentoring roles for other advanced practice providers. The APP Manager reports directly to the APP Director. Administrative and reporting responsibilities are per department expectations. The APP Manager interacts with the division workforce at large on issues related to advanced practice providers, mentors them, and engages stakeholders. The manager provides professional practice leadership, education, and mentoring through interactions with peers, APPs, and stakeholders and supports the professional development of APRNs and PAs. The APP Manager serves as the liaison between APRN/PAs and upper‑level advanced practice leaders. The APP Manager is responsible for providing health‑care services to patients within the parameters of a standard care or supervisory agreement with an attending physician member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The manager collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to provide a full scope of patient care, focusing on preventive health and the management of acute and/or stable chronic conditions. The manager performs medical services authorized and directed by the credentialing body and certifying organization through which they hold licensure. Position Summary The APP Manager utilizes knowledge, skills, and abilities to optimize APP practice and utilization while supporting APP Leads (where applicable) and front‑line staff with sustainable models. The manager aligns with system APP strategic goals, translates these goals into workflow activities, and guides direct reports in execution. In collaboration with a licensed physician member of the medical staff, the APP Manager provides health‑care services, including care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education and counseling of individuals and families, health promotion and prevention, and referrals to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate. Working within Inpatient Surgical Services, the APP Manager collaborates with divisional and departmental leadership under the direction of the APP Director and the Office of Advanced Practice to support advanced practice providers delivering care across the surgical patient continuum. The manager provides oversight and mentoring for APPs whose responsibilities may span inpatient and ambulatory settings, including surgical assist and census‑based care functions. The APP Manager facilitates alignment of APP practice with divisional goals and organizational standards and serves as the connecting point between front‑line APPs and Advanced Practice leadership to support sustainable, high‑quality surgical care delivery. Minimum Qualifications Master of Science in Nursing or Master’s in Physician Assistant Science. APRN license with certification as an NP or National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a PA‑C. Minimum of four (4) years of experience, including at least two (2) years as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and two (2) years in a lead APP, formal APP administrative leadership, or APP educator role. 8–12 years of relevant experience preferred.
