As per the union contract, at the discretion of the Chief of Police, newly hired police officers who have previous police experience as full‑time police officers and are Illinois certified officers or equivalent may be placed in the wage as determined by the Chief of Police. Placement of newly hired officers pursuant to this Section shall be for salary purposes only, and shall not affect a newly hired officer’s seniority for any other purpose. The community provides residents and businesses an exceptional quality of life with recreational amenities, educational opportunities, and a mixture of numerous restaurants and shopping malls, which offer a variety of leisure time activities. The Village employs approximately 185 employees in four major service areas: General Services Administration, Community Development, Police, and Public Works. Each of these departments is further delineated into specific divisions that provide public services. Fine Print Lateral entry applicants must possess a current Law Enforcement Officer Certification and have been employed in a full‑time law enforcement capacity for a minimum of 18 months (and successfully completed the probationary period). The totality of the individual's law enforcement training and work experience will be considered. Work schedule for patrol is currently 8.25 hours per shift; 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 2 days off. Applicant Screening Process The entire process may include an oral interview, polygraph, psychological test, medical exam, and any other exams deemed necessary by the Police Department. This screening process is based strictly on the excellence of the candidate and their specific qualifications as well as the hiring needs of the Department at the time of review.
