Supervisory Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States citizenship required; non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy. Education: Hold a master’s or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or both, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Related fields include Addiction Counseling, Community Counseling, Gerontology Counseling, Marital‑Couple‑Family Counseling, etc. Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC). LPMHCs without an independent‑practice license must be supervised by a VA staff member licensed in the same discipline. Experience: At least one year of progressively complex, GS‑11‑equivalent experience demonstrating advanced practice skills, judgment, and competency. Assignments: Administer staff supervision, direct development and implementation of services, provide treatment to patients, and maintain professional environment per organizational policies. KSAs: Demonstrate all KSAs for the GS‑11 level and the additional KSAs listed (administrative supervision, maintaining professional environment, communicating performance expectations, etc.). Physical Requirements: Duty is primarily sedentary, occasional light lifting (≤15 lb), use of fingers to operate computers. Duties Administrative/Supervisory: Perform staff management, set performance expectations, conduct performance critiques, provide feedback, resolve complaints, recommend personnel actions, approve leave requests. Supervision: Supervise LPMHC staff in accordance with Community Based Clinics (CBOC) Service Line objectives, exercise supervisory authority, contribute to program review, monitoring, analysis, planning, and assessment. Project Management: Lead key project activities for planning, development, and implementation of program components. Clinical: Conduct case finding, outreach, psychosocial assessments, independent treatment, coordination of community services, consultation, and maintain knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses. Customer Service: Communicate respectfully with veterans, staff, and public; provide consultative support. Additional Responsibilities: Engage with diverse stakeholders, serve on committees, represent the medical center at professional events, review and revise policies, perform related duties as assigned.
