Summary The School‑Based Behavioral Health Liaison (SBBHL) plays a vital role in promoting mental health and wellness among students. The SBBHL supports schools in implementing trauma‑informed practices and behavioral health interventions for students at risk of developing emotional, behavioral, or substance use disorders; this includes individual and group counseling, teacher consultation, and fostering strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community. The SBBHL is embedded within school settings to deliver mental health services and provide psycho‑educational to enhance the overall learning environment. Key Responsibilities Responsible for fulfilling all duties related to emergency preparedness, evacuation, and client safety, including support of individuals who may not be capable of self‑preservation, in accordance with TN Voices Employee Policies and TN State Department regulations and CARF Standards. Direct Services Provide individual, family, and group counseling to students experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. Conduct mental health assessments, screenings, and evaluations, and facilitate psycho‑educational groups on topics such as coping strategies, stress management, and mental health awareness. Offer crisis intervention services and make referrals for additional supports as needed. Support for Teachers and School Staff Consult with teachers to create trauma‑informed, positive classroom environments. Deliver training and education on mental health issues, trauma‑informed practices, substance abuse prevention, and de‑escalation strategies. Assist in the development of school‑wide mental health initiatives and universal prevention strategies. Act as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies to ensure coordinated care for students. Facilitate communication between teachers and families to support students’ behavioral and mental health needs. Participate in school meetings, such as IEP or 504 planning, to advocate for students’ mental health services. Documentation and Compliance Maintain timely and accurate documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, and reports, to comply with grant and organizational requirements. Monitor service outcomes and ensure alignment with state regulations and program standards. Collaboration and Consultation Work collaboratively with school personnel and community providers to complete needs assessments and resource mapping. Participate in school‑wide trauma‑informed initiatives and other mental health‑related programs. Qualifications Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Licensure or eligibility for licensure preferred (LCSW, LPC, etc.). Minimum two years of experience working with children and adolescents in a behavioral health setting, preferably in a school environment. Other Skills and Abilities Proficiency in trauma‑informed practices, ability to provide strength‑based and client‑centered care, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with school staff, students, and families. Core Competencies Meet face‑to‑face with each client at least once per month to assess general welfare and ensure provision of all personal and treatment‑related needs. Participate in weekly team meetings and case reviews. Present case updates including progress and barriers during case reviews and be willing to contribute feedback and direction to other team members. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed in a timely manner (e.g., consent, release of information, progress, notes, etc.). Responsible for the development and implementation of an individualized strength‑based plan of care for each client in collaboration with the client, program peers and other treating professionals. Performance Evaluation Employees are evaluated on an annual basis. Performance reviews are completed electronically by the employee’s direct supervisor then reviewed and approved by regional or program leadership. Employees are given the opportunity to review their performance evaluation with their supervisor and will be required to acknowledge receipt of the annual review electronically.
